The nominations for the 34th London Critics' Circle Film Awards were announced today, with British director Steve McQueen's 12 Years A Slave topping members' ballots with 9 nominations.

The National YoungArts Foundation today announced its 2014 YoungArts Winners. Out of approximately 11,000 applications, 687 young artists from 46 states have been recognized for their outstanding work and accomplishments in one of ten disciplines across the literary, performing, visual and design arts fields. Film Comment's annual end-of-the-year survey of film critics, journalists, film section editors, and past and present contributors was released today with Joel & Ethan Coen's INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS, Steve McQueen's 12 YEARS A SLAVE and Richard Linklater's BEFORE MIDNIGHT taking the top spots among films released in 2013. Among films that made appearances at film festivals or special screenings worldwide, but haven't been picked up for stateside distribution as of yet, Philippe Garrel's JEALOUSY, Tsai Ming-liang's STRAY DOGS and Joaquim Pinto's WHAT NOW? REMIND ME received the top rankings.

START HERE collaborates with composer/musician Tyondai Braxton and Le Poisson Rouge to present Philippines Benefit Concert for Typhoon Haiyan on Thursday, December 19 at 8:00 PM at Le Poisson Rouge (158 Bleecker Street, NYC). The night features performances by legendary composer Philip Glass, Tyondai Braxton + Ben Vida, Prefuse 73, Satomi Matsuzaki of Deerhoof, Dan Friel of Parts & Labor, DJ Jon Santos and special guests to be announced. This one-night-only benefit concert brings aid to the Philippines in response to super typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda). All proceeds will benefit A Single Drop (ASD), a Philippines-based NGO dedicated to shaping mid- to long-term aid in water and sanitation, as well as sustainable strategies for shelter, food security and livelihood.

'12 Years a Slave" and "American Hustle" top this year's nominations for the Critics' Choice Movie Awards with 13 nominations each.

The Detroit Film Critics Society is pleased to announce the best of 2013 in ten categories. The society was founded in Spring 2007 and consists of a group of twenty Michigan film critics who write or broadcast in the Detroit area as well as other major cities within a 150-mile radius of the city including Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing, and Flint, Michigan.
