Larry Cedar, David Melville and Armin Shimerman Star in 'THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO...', Beginning Tonight at the Geffen

The Geffen Playhouse announces its production of The Gospel According to Thomas Jefferson, Charles Dickens and Count Leo Tolstoy: Discord. Written by Scott Carter, executive producer and writer for Bill Maher's Politically Incorrect and Real Time, this whip-smart philosophical comedy features Larry Cedar (Deadwood, PBS's Square One TV), David Melville (Travel Channel Lawrence of America, film Ironclad) and Armin Shimerman (Quark on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Associate Artistic Director at The Antaeus Company) and will be again helmed by director, Matt August (Broadway How the Grinch Stole Christmas). Discord begins previews tonight, October 7 with the press opening on October 15. The closing date is currently scheduled for November 16.

THE WHALE Opens Tonight at Marin Theatre Company

Marin Theatre Company continues its 48th Season with the Bay Area premiere of Samuel D. Hunter's The Whale, which won MTC's 2011 Sky Cooper New American Play Prize and has gone on to become one of the most critically acclaimed new plays in America since its premiere in 2012.

Quotidian Theatre Company to Stage HEDDA GABLER, 10/24-11/23

Following a season that included a best-selling production of 'The Iceman Cometh', the critically acclaimed three-person storytelling drama 'Faith Healer', and the highly successful US premiere of internationally renowned playwright Conor McPherson's 'The Veil', Quotidian Theatre Company opens its 17th season with a new adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's 'Hedda Gabler', updating the action of the play to the socially relevant climate of 1963 Georgetown. Quotidian's production runs October 24 - November 23 at The Writer's Center in downtown Bethesda.

?Noted director and cinematographer Muta' Ali grandson of the legendary acting duo and social activists Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis will host the Hamptons' premiere of his loving tribute to his grandparents, 'Life's Essentials with Ruby Dee' as the closing film of the Raise Your Voice, the 9th Annual African American Film Festival presented by the Southampton African American Museum on Sunday, October 5 at the Southampton Arts Center, 25 Jobs Lane, Southampton, NY 11968.

City of Berkeley Proclaims September 30, 2014 'Tony Taccone Day' in Honor of Berkeley Rep's Artistic Director

Berkeley Repertory Theatre announces that the City of Berkeley has proclaimed Tuesday, September 30, 2014 Tony Taccone Day. This day will honor Berkeley Rep's Michael Leibert Artistic Director Tony Taccone as a pioneer in contemporary American theatre. Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates will host a ceremony to present Taccone an official proclamation between 7:00 PM and 7:30 PM in the City Council Chambers at 2134 Martin Luther King Jr. Way. The ceremony will be broadcast on local radio through KPFB Radio 89.3 and on television through Cable B-TV, Channel 33.

Cleveland Orchestra Now Accepting Nomination for 12th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The Cleveland Orchestra, in cooperation with the City of Cleveland and the Greater Cleveland Partnership, through the Commission on Economic Inclusion, is currently accepting nominations for the twelfth annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award, which will be presented at the Orchestra's Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Concert at Severance Hall on Sunday, January 18, 2015, at 7:00 p.m.

Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott opened with a roar on Friday September 26 at the Coterie Theatre in Kansas City, Mo. "When you have your hand in the lion's mouth it is best to pat it on the head. . ." The lion is segregation and it is Rosa Parks and the Civil Rights Movement that is patting it on the head. Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott, written by Sue Greenberg, opened the 2014-2015 season for the theater.

Opera San Jose to Stage THE ITALIAN GIRL IN ALGIERS, 11/15-30

Opera San José (OSJ) continues its season with Gioachino Rossini's The Italian Girl in Algiers. This sparkling and fast-paced opera weaves a madcap story full of twists and turns into a comic adventure to a land of magnificent palaces, swashbuckling pirates and lavish harems. The Italian Girl in Algiers will be sung in Italian with English supertitles. Six performances are scheduled from November 15 through 30 at the California Theatre, 345 South First Street in downtown San José.
