The party has already started in celebration of Million Dollar Quartet, the latest Broadway import to open in a permanent home in Las Vegas. And, I must note that it seems it'll be a party well worth attending.

theatreWashington just announced the 29th Helen Hayes Awards nominees today, January 28th, 2013 in The National Theatre's Helen Hayes Gallery. This year, for the first time, theatre lovers in Washington and around the world were able to watch the nomination announcements live via webcast at theatrewashington.org, Facebook, or on the Livestream. Martin Kaye has been performing since he could talk. He remembers spending time with his aunt and uncle at the theater and on the stage. His father taught him how to play the piano and his passion has always been music. Martin has been traveling all across the United States playing Jerry Lee Lewis in MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET and recently moved to the Vegas production where he continues to play the role. He brings energy and enthusiasm to the role and he also brings his new bride with him as well. Martin shared his experiences of being on the road with MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET and then his transition to the Vegas stage.

After a nationwide search, full casting has been announced for the Las Vegas production of MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, which begins performances at Harrah's Las Vegas on February 4. The cast will be led by Martin Kaye as Jerry Lee Lewis, Benjamin D. Hale as Johnny Cash, Tyler Hunter as Elvis Presley and Robert Britton Lyons as Carl Perkins. The cast also features Marc Donovan as Sam Phillips, Felice Garicia as Dyanne, and musicians Jim Belk and Mikey Hachey.

The national tour of the Broadway musical Million Dollar Quartet, inspired by the electrifying true story, will make its Columbus premiere February 5-10 at the Palace Theatre (34 W. Broad St.).

Some New York critics panned Million Dollar Quartet for what they called a dearth of dramatic tension onstage, but it went on to receive a Tony nomination for Book of a Musical in 2010 anyway, and based on the overly passionate delivery of the sizzling tour artists, there's enough fire and fever to bring audiences to their feet and shakin' at the Pantages through July 1. On opening night there was indeed an extra long standing, and swaying, ovation to 'Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On'.
