MTWorks to Present SWEET, SWEET SPIRIT, 10/10-25

MANHATTAN THEATRE WORKS (MTWorks), in association with the Theater Series at the 14th Street Y, are pleased to announce the world premiere of Sweet, Sweet Spirit by Carol Carpenter (Outstanding Playwriting for Good Lonely People - Planet Connections Awards), directed by Joan Kane (2011 People of the Year in Indie Theatre - Martin Denton, nytheatre.com). Sweet, Sweet Spirit will play a three week limited engagement at The Theater at the 14th Street Y (344 East 14th Street at 1st Avenue). Performances begin Friday, October 10th and continue through Saturday, October 25th. Opening Night is Tuesday, October 14th at 8:00pm. Tickets are $18 ($15 Students/$12 Seniors). A team of independent producers and a multicultural group of artists have joined forces with Kori Rushton and IRT's Residency Season to bring to life a new play: Useless by Romanian-born playwright Saviana Stanescu. The production is directed by Jose Zayas and features Ana Grosse, Andy Phelan and Steven Rishard.

Theater for a New Generation will present 'Freefall' by the highly celebrated Chicago playwright Charles Smith, directed by Mel Williams, at The Drilling Company Theatre, 238 West 78th Street, tonight, September 11 to 28. The play is a drama of two brothers who grew up in inner-city Chicago and have followed divergent paths into adulthood: one as a thief, the other as a policeman.

United Solo proudly presents Less Than Rent Theatre's World Premiere of Sean Patrick Monahan's Diva on October 7th and October 23rd at Theatre Row (410 W. 42nd Street). The production will be directed by James Presson (FringeNYC Award Winner for Directing in 2010). Designs will feature lights by Gary Slootskiy (Independents), choreography by Jennifer Delac (Beckett in Benghazi), and fight design by Cory Asinofsky (Richard 3).
