The new Broadway revival of THE COLOR PURPLE opens tonight, December 10, at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre (242 W 45th Street).

The first national tour of THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY opens at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre tonight, December 10, 2015, and plays through January 17, 2016. 

Broadway's The Color Purple doesn't officially open until this Thursday, December 10, but New York Times theatre critic Ben Brantley couldn't wait to rave about the show. The writer teased his opinion before the big night in his 2015 'Best of' roundup.

The critically acclaimed musical features one of Broadway's most accomplished creative teams with music and lyrics by three-time Tony Award-winning composer JASON ROBERT BROWN (Parade, The Last Five Years), book by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer MARSHA NORMAN (The Secret Garden, The Color Purple, 'night, Mother) and direction by Tony Award-winner BARTLETT SHER (South Pacific, The King & I, The Light in the Piazza), recreated by TYNE RAFAELI (Fiddler on the Roof, The King & I).

On last night's LATE SHOW WITH STEPHEN COLBERT, Jennifer Hudson and the cast of Broadway's THE COLOR PURPLE performed the number 'Push Da Button'.

The first national tour of THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY opens later this week at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre, but you need not wait that long for a sneak peek. Described as “An Afternoon of Famous Duets,” Saturday's Urban Stages Winter Rhythms presentation (Day Four of the 11-day, 20-show festival) was unexpectedly sweeping in its approach, covering duos that sang pop, folk, jazz, Great American Songbook, and musical theater tunes. With veteran cabaret singer Sue Matsuki serving as producer and host, and Musical Director Gregory Toroian on piano, the show encompassed both the predictable and the surprising and was a genuine pleasure.

Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group (ATEG) brings the first international production of the book-to-stage adaptation of Robert James Waller's THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY to Manila. The production premiered on November 20, and will run until December 6, at Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium (4/F RCBC Plaza, Ayala Ave. cor. Gil Puyat Ave., Makati City).

The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts today announced that individual tickets go on public sale next month for four upcoming Kravis On Broadway shows, all of which were major hits on the Great White Way.

Des Moines Performing Arts, in partnership with THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY national tour and the Madison County Chamber of Commerce, welcome Elizabeth Stanley and Andrew Samonsky, who star as Francesca Johnson and Robert Kincaid in THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY's national tour. THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY, winner of the 2014 Tony Award for Best Original Score and Best Orchestrations, is famously set in Iowa and will launch its national tour at the Des Moines Civic Center November 28 - December 5. Their musical, which is playing at Orlando's Mad Cow Theatre through December 20th, thrived on Broadway, and regionally ever since, because of its soaring music, life-affirming story, and the creativity that its magical world allows. Unfortunately, directed by Aradhana Tiwari, Mad Cow's production squanders a universally talented cast on a bleak and bland vision that lacks the magic and imagination that the story, on both page and stage, has inspired for over a century.
