You Can't Stop The Beat With HAIRSPRAY At The Maltz Jupiter Theatre

You can't stop the beat in the Maltz Jupiter Theatre's big and bold Broadway blockbuster about one girl's inspiring dream to dance! Onstage January 9 through 28, the smash hit musical Hairspray kicks off the New Year at the Theatre. The musical takes place in 1962 Baltimore, where Tracy Turnblad a girl with big hair and an even bigger heart is on a mission to dance her way onto national TV. When her dream comes true on the Corny Collins Show, Tracy transforms from social outcast to teen superstar and sets out to integrate the show.

Leah Nanako Winkler Named 2017-19 Jerome New York Fellow At The Lark

The Lark announces that Leah Nanako Winkler, author of Kentucky, Two Mile Hollow, and Death for Sydney Black, will be the 2017-19 recipient of the Jerome New York Fellowship. The fellowship, designed to support an early career writer of extraordinary ability, promise, and vision, provides stipends of $25,000 in the first year and $15,000 in the second, in addition to an Opportunity Fund of $5,000 to be used for purposes of additional creative expenses such as travel, research, and workshops. The fellowship is designed to be a life-sustaining platform of support, allowing the fellow to focus on their craft, and to generate and develop a significant body of work.

Based on the New Line Cinema film written and directed by John Waters and set against the backdrop of 60s America, 'Hairspray' tells the story of teenaged Tracy Turnblad and her dream to dance on the Corny Collins Show. Book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan. Music by Marc Shaiman. Lyrics by Scott Whittman and Marc Shaiman. Westage Theatre Co. & Carriage Place Players are partnering with Empty Bowls, a local project to fight hunger. Friday - During intermission, there will be a silent auction for bowls donated by local artists. Saturday - 5 p.m. bowls and soup event - for a $10 minimum donation, select a bowl and enjoy homemade soup and bread then keep the handmade bowl. All proceeds from the Empty Bowls events benefit the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. Performances are October 20th thru 22nd at Westgate Community Recreation Center, 455 S Westgate Ave., Columbus, Ohio. CSUF's CRY BABY Preps for Rockin' Opening

Tony nominated Cry Baby, the Musical with music by Adam Schlesinger, lyrics by David Javerbaum and book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan opens at CSUF on October 27th. The production features direction by CSUF alum Sarah Ripper, musical direction by Mitchell Hanlon and choreography by William F. Lett, and runs October 27-November 12, 2017 in the Little Theatre on campus.

CSU Fullerton's RED SCARE ON SUNSET Opens 10/6 in the Hallberg Theatre

Red Scare on Sunset by Charles Busch, directed by CSUF graduate student Kyle Cooper, runs October 6-29, 2017 in the Hallberg Theatre on campus. Red Scare on Sunset is a funny and frighteningly pure parody of the 1950's Communist invasion of Hollywood. When film star Mary Dale discovers that her own husband has been lured into the local Communist party by way of a method-acting class, she wages a private war to save her husband and conquer the Beverly Hills Commies. The McCarthy era is turned on its head in this novel take on a serious subject. Red Scare on Sunset contains fog, haze, and herbal cigarettes.

California State University, Fullerton's 2017—2018 Season Opens with FRANKENSTEIN

Cal State Fullerton's 2017-2018 season opens with Frankenstein based on the novel by Mary Shelley, adapted by Bruce Goodrich and directed by CSUF Professor Maria Cominis, which runs September 29-October 15, 2017 in the Young Theatre on campus. An electrifying new version of Frankenstein will keep audiences mesmerized by the sheer power of Mary Shelley's 19th century classic.

HAIRSPRAY To Open In Tel Aviv Tonight!

HAIRSPRAY will open tonight at the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv! It will close on October 8, and is scheduled to continue its tour around the country. HAIRSPRAY premiered on Broadway in 2002 and ran until 2009. The show received twelve Tony Award nominations, and won eight, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score.
