BWW Interview: Megan J. Minturn of MJM DANCE in a Sneak Preview

MJM Dance, under the artistic direction of Megan J. Minturn, is a New York City based company that fuses movement with intention and creativity as a means to express, speak, and reveal. On April 13 and 14, 2017, the company will have its world premiere (and first evening length work) of their latest dance entitled Monopoly: The Landlord's Game at the Mark Morris Dance Center located at 3 Lafayette Avenue in Brooklyn, NY. Based on the ever popular classic board game Monopoly and its little known founder, Lizzie Magie, this piece seeks to consider the injustices of for-profit prisons, poorly paid work, and inadequate housing caused by our current “game board rules.”

Threshold Stage Company Presents the Seacoast Premiere CLYBOURNE PARK

What if your house's walls really could talk? Would you want your friends and neighbors to hear what your home has to say? Threshold Stage Company's Seacoast Premiere of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize and 2012 Tony Award winning play 'Clybourne Park' by Bruce Norris, gives center stage to one such home as it hysterically shares the stories of two couples, separated by fifty years' time, attempting to buy and sell the house while navigating a politically correct mine field of societal inclusion and exclusion along the way.

Baryshnikov Arts Center & Jazz Foundation of America co-Present Stanley Jordan

The Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) and Jazz Foundation of America will co-present Stanley Jordan on Today, March 9, 2017 at 8pm at BAC's Jerome Robbins Theater. Among the most gifted guitarists of his generation, Jordan is master of the two-handed tapping technique, using the neck of the guitar like a keyboard rather than strumming or picking. Applying this astonishing technique, or "touch style" in another setting, Jordan also performs on both guitar and piano at the same time, playing chords and melodies with his hands on separate instruments and uniquely melding the two sounds into one. More than a technical phenomenon, Jordan conveys an astounding depth of musical expression through a multi-faceted solo repertoire, ranging from bold reinventions of classical masterpieces to improvisational contemporary works. At BAC, Jordan will be joined for several songs by his daughter, New York City-based singer/songwriter Julia Jordan.
