American Repertory Ballet's Nutcracker production is celebrating 50 consecutive years this coming holiday season. It is one of the longest-running Nutcracker productions in the United States, and is the longest-running in New Jersey. Today, November 30, 2013, directly following the 4:30pm performance at McCarter Theatre, American Repertory Ballet will hold a celebratory reception at The Nassau Club in Princeton.

American Repertory Ballet's 50th Annual Nutcracker production will come to State Theatre on Friday, December 21 and Saturday, December 22 at 1:00pm and 4:30pm. These performances feature Tchaikovsky's score played live by an orchestra under the direction of Maestro Michael Pratt, and vocals by the Princeton Girlchoir. In addition to ARB's 50th Nutcracker milestone, State Theatre is also celebrating its own 25th year.

Since its founding in 1961, La MaMa Experimental Arts Club has been a hub for risk-taking theater artists from around the globe. La MaMa will celebrate their 2013 season of performances with a gala honoring two pillars of arts journalism: former Village Voice critic Michael Feingold, and publisher Patsy Tarr of 2wice. Throughout their long careers, these two individuals have carved out a voice for the arts, championing countless artists working across platforms.

STARZ announced today the involvement of internationally-renowned dancers in the original drama series 'Flesh and Bone' (previously announced as an 'Untitled Ballet Project') currently in development at the network, from award-winning 'Breaking Bad' Writer and Co-Executive Producer, Moira Walley-Beckett. 'Flesh and Bone' follows a young ballet dancer, Claire Robbins, who has a distinctly troubled past, as she joins a prestigious ballet company in New York. Hofesh is a seriously cool guy. Normally I subscribe to the Oscar Wilde School of art criticism, but in this special case, the person behind the art is worth a mention. In a world that is often both glamorously and infamously depicted with power and fame hungry choreographers/directors lording over desperate dancers reduced to human body-things, Hofesh's warm presence is calming in its quiet power, exacting in its purpose without a totalitarian bent. Granted, I've only danced with him for a total of perhaps 6 hours over the course of 4 years, but I stand by the assessment. Hofesh Shecter is really, really cool.

Whether dancing principal or soloist roles, soloist with ABT, Misty Copeland, glows. At present, a soloist with the company, her presence on the stage demands attention; and she gets it.

The inimitable Olivier Award winner and Tony Award nominee Fiona Shaw (Medea, 2002 Next Wave; Happy Days, 2008 Spring Season; John Gabriel Borkman, 2011 Spring Season) and dancer Daniel Hay-Gordon perform one of the best loved poems in the English language, Samuel Taylor Coleridge's epic The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, under the acclaimed direction of Phyllida Lloyd. The fourth edition of Lincoln Center's White Light Festival (now through November 23, 2013) is highlighted by appearances by internationally-renowned dance artists Akram Khan and the Mark Morris Dance Group.
