BWW Review: NEW YORK CITY BALLET a Trio of Ballets

At Lincoln Center's Koch Theater on April 29, 2016, the ballet crowd filled the house that Friday evening. For this program, City Ballet presented Estancia, Pictures at an Exhibition, and Everywhere We Go. Each piece demonstrated a variance in style, yet conclusively was still in the realm of the dancers' undeniable Balanchine training.

Washington Ballet to Hold Gala Celebrating David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Today

WASHINGTON, D.C. -The Washington Ballet will hold THE BOWIE QUEEN BALL to support education and community engagement programs including THEARC and the extensive public school program DanceDC. Sponsorships are available. The annual gala enables hundreds of children at THEARC in Ward 8 and in the DanceDC program to experience significant dance training and to achieve greater academic and life skills. 

2016 NYC DANCE WEEK to be Held in June

Now in its fifth year, NYC Dance Week is an annual festival that provides FREE dance, fitness and wellness classes throughout all five boroughs of New York. This year, NYC Dance Week will occur on June 16th through June 25th, and features a wide and diverse offering of classes for participants to enjoy.

The Washington Ballet Presents CARMINA BURANA This Weekend

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Ballet (TWB) presents Carmina Burana with Balanchine's Theme and Variations- a theatrical tour-de-force performance that includes 100 voices of the Cathedral Choral Society under the direction of J. Reilly Lewis at the Kennedy Center this weekend, April 13-17.

Pacific Northwest Ballet Dancer Jessika Anspach to Retire at End of the 2015-2016 Season

Pacific Northwest Ballet Artistic Director Peter Boal and corps de ballet dancer Jessika Anspach have announced that Ms. Anspach will retire at the end of PNB's 2015-2016 season. A true “PNB baby,” Ms. Anspach literally grew up dancing at PNB over 26 years, first in classes at PNB School and then with the Company. She took her first PNB School Creative Movement dance class at the age of five in 1990, joined the company as an apprentice in 2004 and was promoted to corps de ballet in 2005.

Washington Ballet Announces Tribute Performance to David Bowie and Queen

 The Washington Ballet (TWB) presents a full-throttle evening of entertainment that combines the artistry and beauty of dance with the power of the world's most innovative popular rock icons who defined an epoch and became fixtures in American pop culture -David Bowie and Queen. The performance features two company premieres: Trey McIntyre's Mercury Half-Life and Edwaard Liang's Dancing in the Street, and includes a live electric violin performance by S&R Foundation's Artist-in-Residence, Machiko Ozawa.   

Meany Center for the Performing Arts Announces 2016-17 Season

The University of Washington's Meany Center for the Performing Arts, newly renamed from UW World Series, today announced its programming for the 2016/17 Season, including 23 events in four subscription series -- World Dance, World Music, International Chamber Music and President's Piano Series -- as well as a special holiday presentation.

Brian Brooks Set for Residency at Chicago's Harris Theater

The Harris Theater for Music and Dance has appointed choreographer Brian Brooks its first ever Choreographer in Residence. This Residency provides $600,000 over three years that will fund choreographer compensation, commissioning, and production support. The new Residency will provide encouragement and allow choreographers to focus on creating one-to-three new works each season without the constraints of financial pressures, while providing financial support to mount and produce the new works set upon regional, national, and international dance companies.

American String Quartet to Perform in Cooperstown, 4/24

The music of Beethoven and Ravel will fill the Otesaga Hotel ballroom on Sunday, April 24 at 4 pm.  The American String Quartet, internationally recognized as one of the world's finest, will perform these masterworks, and, with Linda Chesis, a piece for  flute and string quartet by French composer Albert Roussel. This is the first concert of the Cooperstown Summer Music Festival's 18th season.  Ms. Chesis, the Festival's artistic director and founder, has performed with the American String Quartet numerous times, including two times in Cooperstown. The Quartet is comprised of Peter Winograd and Laurie Carney, violins; Daniel Avshalomov, viola; Wolfram Koessel, cello.

David Tennant-Led 'KING AND COUNTRY' Begins Tonight at BAM

In a major theatrical event marking the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death, BAM, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and The Ohio State University present the US Premiere of Shakespeare's History plays in KING AND COUNTRY: SHAKESPEARE'S GREAT CYCLE OF KINGS. Following performances at the Barbican, and in China in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong, the plays are directed by RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran and performed in repertory at the BAM Harvey Theater from tonight, Mar 24, through May 1, 2016.

Camille A. Brown Wins the 2016 Jacob's Pillow Dance Award

The 2016 Jacob's Pillow Dance Award, a prestigious honor that carries a $25,000 cash prize, will be presented to contemporary choreographer, dancer, and artistic director Camille A. Brown in acknowledgement of her vision and outstanding contributions to the dance field. Regularly garnering acclaim for her 'vividness and versatility' (Alastair Macaulay, The New York Times), Brown holds a New York Dance and Performance ('Bessie') Award, two Princess Grace Awards, a Doris Duke Performing Artist Award, and her work has toured nationally and internationally. The Jacob's Pillow Dance Award was established in 2007 and, in honor of its 10th anniversary, the Pillow has broadened the scope of this honor with a commitment to the artist's growth and future work. In addition to the unrestricted cash prize, this Award also includes a committed engagement for the 2017 Festival and a Creative Development Residency at Jacob's Pillow. Previous recipients of the Jacob's Pillow Dance Award include the legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham; MacArthur Fellows Michelle Dorrance and Kyle Abraham; and John Heginbotham of Dance Heginbotham, among others.
