Kevin Newbury to Direct World Premiere of Lyric Opera of Chicago's BEL CANTO

Anthony Freud, general director of Lyric Opera of Chicago, announced today that the acclaimed American director Kevin Newbury will direct the world-premiere production of Bel Canto during the company's 2015-16 season. Newbury replaces Stephen Wadsworth.

Minneapolis—Minnesota Opera's production of Kevin Puts' Silent Night, a company commission which earned its composer the 2012 Pulitzer Prize in Music, will be broadcast nationally on PBS, presented by tpt National Productions, on Friday, December 13 at 9pm ET (check local listings).

This year, Tony-winner Alfie Boe and veteran news anchor Tom Brokaw - along with 'Hal' Halvorsen, the 'candy bomber' who dropped chocolates into post-war Berlin in 1948 - join the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for an inspirational concert at Temple Square. Harking back to WWI, PBS presents Silent Night, a poignant opera based on the Christmas Eve truce of 1914, when French, German and Scottish soldiers laid down their arms for one evening of peace.

Fort Worth Opera Announces Partnership with American Lyric Theater for Upcoming JFK Opera, 2016

Fort Worth Opera General Director Darren K. Woods today shared further details about the highly anticipated world premiere of the company's third commissioned opera, JFK (working title), by the sensational and highly acclaimed team of composer David T. Little and librettist Royce Vavrek. The opera, which serves as the crown jewel of Fort Worth Opera's (FWOpera's) 70th anniversary season in 2016, is the final work in three years of world premieres from the company that begin during the upcoming 2014 season. The world premiere production of JFK will take place at Fort Worth's renowned Bass Performance Hall on April 16, 2016.

The Brooklyn Academy Of Music (BAM) has announced American Opera Projects (AOP) among the participants in the BAM Professional Development Program (BAM PDP) led by BAM and the DeVos Institute of Arts Management at the Kennedy Center. The companies for this session are of mixed disciplines ranging from opera to theater to dance. AOP's participation in the program will culminate in 2015 with the World Premiere of As One, an original music theater work to be created by composer Laura Kaminsky, librettist Mark Campbell, and filmmaker Kimberly Reed.
