BSO to Offer Family Concert Honoring African-American Innovators, 2/21

In celebration of Black History Month, Associate Conductor for Education and Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestras Artistic Director Ken Lam leads the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in a Family Concert Series program celebrating African-American Innovators, Saturday, February 21 at 11 a.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Featuring the music of Duke Ellington and Heitor Villa-Lobos, the Baltimore City College Choir led by Director Marcus Smith, lends their voices for a collection of African-American spirituals, honoring the impact of innovation on our collective history. Marin Alsop to Conduct BSO & Jamie Barton in Mahler's THIRD SYMPHONY, 1/29-31

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) Music Director Marin Alsop and the BSO present Mahler's epic Third Symphony on Thursday, January 29 at 8 p.m. and Friday, January 30 at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, and Saturday, January 31 at 8 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore. The vocal soloist for the fourth and fifth movements is American mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton, the 2013 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World winner. The Baltimore Choral Arts Society Women's Chorus and Peabody's Children's Chorus join Marin Alsop, Ms. Barton and the BSO on this program. Please see below for complete program details.

Violinist Karina Canellakis to Conduct and Perform with the LA Chamber Orchestra, 1/24-25

Karina Canellakis, hailed as a 'masterful' violinist and recognized as one of America's most promising young conductors, makes her Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra debut showcasing her dual talents performing and leading Vivaldi's vivid Violin Concerto, 'La tempesta di mare' ('Storm') and conducting Schubert's Symphony No. 5 on Saturday, January 24, 2015, 8 pm, at Glendale's Alex Theatre, and Sunday, January 25, 2015, 7 pm, at UCLA's Royce Hall.

Baltimore Symphony Welcomes Teresa Eaton as Director of Public Relations

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) has appointed Teresa Eaton as the director of public relations and publications, a position she began on Monday, December 1, 2014. Ms. Eaton brings 14 years of multi-media marketing and public relations experience to the BSO's PR office.

Marin Alsop to Lead BSO in THE RITE OF SPRING Next Month

Music Director ?Marin Alsop will lead the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 8 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 3 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore. Also on the Classical Concert Series program are Barber's Medea's Meditation and Dance of Vengeance and Osvaldo Golijov's Rose of the Winds (BSO premiere). The Rite of Spring is the subject of Maestra Alsop's third Off the Cuff program of the 2014-2015 season, held Friday, January 9 at 8:15 p.m. at Strathmore and Saturday, January 10 at 7 p.m. at the Meyerhoff. Capitalizing on Marin Alsop's charismatic way of illuminating classical music, the Off the Cuff programs focus on one masterwork, allowing the Maestra to discuss the back story of the piece and the composer's life. Auditorium Theatre to Host 10th Anniversary Performance of 'TOO HOT TO HANDEL' in January

The Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University presents the 10th anniversary performance of "Too Hot To Handel: The Jazz-Gospel Messiah," honoring the life of Civil Rights activist and cultural icon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., January 17 and 18, 2015. In a program that continues the 2014-2015 season theme of spirituality in music, Music Director Marin Alsop pays tribute to her mentor Leonard Bernstein. Maestra Alsop will lead the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in a concert featuring the works of both Bernstein and Beethoven, tonight, November 21 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, November 23 at 3 p.m at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and Saturday, November 22 at 8 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore.

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is pleased to announce the launch of its sixth annual BSO Academy Week. From Saturday, June 20 through Saturday, June 27, 2015, instrumentalists from across the country are invited to rehearse and perform side-by-side with BSO musicians and under the direction of Music Director Marin Alsop in an intensive music "fantasy camp." The BSO's Academy Week was notably featured in The New York Times and has become a popular destination for amateur musicians from across the country. The Academy provides an immersive experience for participants who desire a comprehensive learning experience through four distinct tracks for performers, educators and administrators: Orchestral Track, Chamber Music Track, Music Educator Track and the Arts Administrator Track. This special Off the Cuff performance tonight, November 14 at 8:15 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore and Saturday, November 15 at 7 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall dramatizes Shostakovich's harrowing life during Stalin's murderous reign in 1930s Russia, and features actors Jered McLenigan, Richard Poe and Tony Tsendeas. Baltimore, Md. (November 5, 2014) — In a program that continues the 2014-2015 season theme of spirituality in music, Music Director Marin Alsop pays tribute to her mentor Leonard Bernstein. Maestra Alsop will lead the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in a concert featuring the works of both Bernstein and Beethoven, Friday, November 21 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, November 23 at 3 p.m at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and Saturday, November 22 at 8 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore. Bernstein's Chichester Psalms and Symphony No. 1, “Jeremiah” are accompanied by Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, the last work Bernstein conducted before his death in 1990. Joining Marin Alsop and the BSO will be members of the Cathedral Choral Society, the BSO's first-ever collaboration with the Washington, D.C.-based choir.
