Wit is a 90 minute one act play by Margaret Edson that tells the story of Vivian Bearing, a renowned English professor who has been diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer. During the course of her illness, Vivian comes to reassess her life and her work with a profundity and humor that are transformative both for her and the audience.
Under the Artistic Direction of Casey Hushion, NC Theatre's production of WIT is directed by Kate Galvin, stars Kate Goehring and features Tony Award-winner Daisy Eagan (Susie Monahan, R.N., B.S.N.). The thought-provoking story will run in the AJ Fletcher Opera Theater at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Raleigh through May 8, 2016. North Carolina Theatre today announced a last-minute cast change for Margaret Edson's WIT, opening tomorrow, April 29th. Kate Goehring will step into the lead role of 'Vivian Bearing, Ph.D.' replacing Judy McLane, who has withdrawn from the production due to personal reasons.
An exclusive Tuesday matinee of Wit with specially priced seating has been planned for Tuesday, May 3 at 2pm. Margaret Edson's Pulitzer Prize winning play examines what makes life worth living through the exploration of one of existence's unifying experiences-mortality. Audience members will be moved to rethink the vital importance of human relationships and kindness. 'Wit' is, above all, about how people express, repress and analyze their emotions, especially when dealing with the unwanted, unexpected or overwhelming emotions,' says Chris Arnott of The Hartford Courant. He continues to describe the Playhouse's production as: 'Witty, tasteful and tearfully real.'
