Existing partly as a way to promote the upcoming production of Ever After at Paper Mill Playhouse, this intimate cabaret concert was really just a great excuse to get to hear one of Broadway's favorite leading men sing a collection of songs.

For a symphony concert appearance this past weekend, Melissa Errico was asked to add a new song to her program especially for that evening, a duet with baritone Stephen Buntrock (A Little Night Music, Phantom). She was in rehearsal in NYC with pianist-arranger Phil Hall ten days ago when he said, 'Really, the disco dress she wore MADE that number, or maybe it was vice versa, but that dress was WOW.'

I could probably write a one sentence review of Audra McDonald's concert at Bethesda's magnificent Music Center at Strathmore that would sum up my reaction quite well. It would read something like this: Audra is perfection and can do anything.

If there ever was a noted voice from heaven, I would have to say that this title belongs to Audra McDonald. Whenever you have the opportunity to witness an artist in a concert setting, you either fall deeper in love with them, or you are pushed away by their energy in this more intimate space. With McDonald, what you see on Broadway is what you get in person.
