Jazz Italiano Kicks Off JCTC's Voices: International Theater Festival

With its renowned  propensity for multi-genre series, Jersey City Theater Center (JCTC) kicks off New Jersey's first annual, international theater festival with Jazz Italiano, an intimate, black-box theater  concert by IDR_Italian Doc Remix, the internationally acclaimed ensemble known for its vibrant combination of cutting-edge jazz improvisations and traditional Neapolitan folk music. Jazz Italiano takes place Thursday, August 22nd at Merseles Studios, 339 Newark Avenue, Jersey City, N.J. 07302.

Renowned Bassist/Composer Chris Lightcap Unites Two Acclaimed Groups For Latest Album

Acclaimed bassist and composer Chris Lightcap taps into the best of both worlds of acoustic jazz and propulsive electric arrangements with an all-star group featuring the sound sculptor's two critically acclaimed ensembles, Bigmouth and Superette. To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of his debut album as a bandleader Lay-Up (1999), Lightcap doubles up with the City's premier jazz visionaries for an unflinching amalgamation of his two singular groups on his latest studio recording, SuperBigmouth (Pyroclastic Records, October 4, 2019). The supergroup features the electrifying lineup of Lightcap alongside keyboardist Craig Taborn, tenor saxophonists Tony Malaby and Chris Cheek, guitarists Jonathan Goldberger and Curtis Hasselbring, and drummers Gerald Cleaver and Dan Rieser.

New York Guitar Festival Kicks Off 20th Anniversary Celebration June 1st

The New York Guitar Festival and Arts Brookfield will present "Memphis Minnie: In Search of the Hoodoo Lady," a free, outdoor concert celebrating the life and music of influential blues guitarist Memphis Minnie. The Saturday, June 1st, 7pm event will be held at Brookfield Place's Waterfront Plaza in lower Manhattan.

Ryan Dugré Announces Second Solo Album, 'The Humors'

The instrumental pieces on The Humors, the second full-length album from NYC-based freelance guitarist Ryan Dugré, are meant to create mood and space. Drawing influence from film music, sparse scores such as Neil Young's music for Dead Man, as well as the more melancholic pieces found on Marc Ribot's Silent Movies, Ryan's music is graceful and meditative. 

Brian Carpenter's Beat Circus Announce Final Installment in 'Weird American Gothic' Trilogy

These Wicked Things is the fourth release from the determinedly eclectic Boston-based band Beat Circus and the final installment in singer/multi-instrumentalist/composer Brian Carpenter's “Weird American Gothic” trilogy. The record bridges a number of disparate genres including experimental music, cowpunk, post-punk, Mexican folk music, mariachi music, and Italian giallo soundtracks. The cover and booklet include a 18-page graphic novelette by renowned Croatian artist Danijel Zezelj, best known for his live paintings, multimedia, and collaborations with DC Comics/Vertigo.

7th Annual Urban Campfire Announced at City Winery, NYC

Guitar Mash's 7th Annual Urban Campfire at City Winery on Sunday November 18th will feature Ani DiFranco, Biodun Kuti, Fernandito Ferrer, Jimmy Vivino, Kat Edmonson, and Marc Ribot, leading the audience in covers of their curated "Songs for Change," backed by Guitar Mash Artistic Director Mark Stewart (music director for Paul Simon, founding member of the Bang on a Can All-Stars) and his house band.

Guitar Mash has announced its artist line-up for the 7th Annual Urban Campfire at City Winery on Sunday, November 18th from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Urban Campfire is a unique and immersive musical experience where artists break down the wall between the stage and the house, and invite the audience to perform along with them.  The theme for this year's event is “Songs for Change” which focuses on the power of music to generate awareness and bring people together.

ARJUN - Power Jazz Rock Trio Come to The Iridium for One Night Only!

Ishmael Houston-Jones' THEM Returns To Performance Space New York, June 21-28

Performance Space New York's East Village Series, the first themed series under the leadership of Executive Artistic Director Jenny Schlenzka, has reexamined the audacious origins of the organization and the communities that formed around it. In 1986, choreographer Ishmael Houston-Jones, composer/guitarist Chris Cochrane, writer Dennis Cooper, and an ensemble of dancers performed the first full version of THEM, an unblinking interdisciplinary work of scored improvisational dance, spoken text, and guitar, at what was then Performance Space 122.
