2011 Australian Helpmann Award Nominations Announced: LOVE NEVER DIES, DOCTOR ZHIVAGO & More

The annual Helpmann Awards® recognise distinguished artistic achievement and excellence in the many disciplines of Australia's vibrant live performance sectors, including musical theatre, contemporary music, comedy, opera, classical music, theatre, dance and physical theatre. The Helpmann Awards also incorporates the JC Williamson Award for outstanding contribution to the Australian live performance industry.

Sydney Theatre Company Presents BAAL, 5/7-6/11

Sydney Theatre Company and Malthouse Melbourne collaborate on a new production of the rarely performed Baal, the first play of one of the greatest theatrical minds of all time, Bertolt Brecht. Written in 1918 when the playwright was just 20 years old and regarded as a play of confronting and contrasting beauty and brutality, Baal is directed by Simon Stone.

Matthew Lutton directs a cast of seven diverse performers including John Gaden, Ewen Leslie and Belinda McClory in Louise Fox's new adaptation of Franz Kafka's novel, The Trial. The indefinable, elusive and mysterious power of Kafka's wit, clowning, farce and obsession with the erotic is mined to the full in Sydney Theatre Company's partnership with Malthouse Melbourne and Perth's ThinIce. Performances at Sydney's Wharf 1 commence on 9 September 2010, opening 14 September.
