InterAct Theatre Presents David Robson's ASSASSIN, Now thru 2/10

If you had the chance to apologize for something you did that ruined another person's life would you? What if that thing was part of what you were expected to do for your job? These questions and other dilemmas lie at the heart of InterAct Theatre Company's second show of its 25th Anniversary Season. Assassin by local playwright David Robson, a co-production with Act II Playhouse, takes an intimate look at hero worship, regret and forgiveness while examining America's fascination with sports violence. With recent media attention being paid to football related injuries, past and present, Assassin is particularly relevant.

Azuka Theatre Kicks Off POOKIE GOES GRENADING World Premiere on Halloween Tonight, 10/31

Azuka Theatre opens its season with the World Premiere of Pookie Goes Grenading. The show will be performed at Azuka's new home at the Off-Broad Street Theater at First Baptist Church, 1636 Sansom Street. The show starts previews on Halloween, tonight, October 31, at 8 p.m. It opens Saturday, November 3 at 7 p.m., and closes Sunday November 18. Tickets cost $18-$27. Lantern Theater Company Presents THE LIAR, 11/1-12/2

Early popular demand has prompted Lantern Theater Company to announce an immediate extension of the upcoming production of David Ives' The Liar, an adaptation of the 1664 French comedy classic by Pierre Corneille, directed by Associate Artistic Director Kathryn MacMillan. This Philadelphia premiere by the playwright of the Lantern's smash hit New Jerusalem, The Interrogation of Baruch de Spinoza at Talmud Torah Congregation: Amsterdam, July 27, 1656 will now run from November 1 - December 2, 2012 (press opening Wednesday, November 7, 7 p.m.).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 'Hairspray's' Nikki Blonsky has just landed a recurring role on the upcoming season of NBC's SMASH. The actress joins a growing list of high-profile guest stars on the musical drama's second season including Jesse L. Martin, Jeremy Jordan, Sean Hayes and Jennifer Hudson.

Lantern Theater Extends NEW JERUSALEM thru 9/30

Lantern Theater Company announces a one-week extension of its successful remount of New Jerusalem, The Interrogation of Baruch de Spinoza at Talmud Torah Congregation: Amsterdam, July 27, 1656 by award-winning playwright David Ives and directed by Lantern Artistic Director Charles McMahon. New Jerusalem will now run through September 30, 2012.

University of the Arts Presents CHICAGO, 3/22-25

The long-running hit musical Chicago will be performed by students at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia at the Merriam Theater on March 23, 24 and 25, 2012. In addition to evening performances on Friday March 23 and Saturday March 24 at 8pm and matinee performances on Saturday and Sunday at 2pm, there will be a preview performance on Thursday night March 22 at 8pm.

On the heels of an enthusiastic Philadelphia reception for New Jerusalem, The Interrogation of Baruch de Spinoza at Talmud Torah Congregation: Amsterdam, July 27, 1656, Lantern Theater Company has announced an encore limited engagement in the Fall of 2012, directed by the Lantern's Artistic Director, Charles McMahon. This revival will include the original cast and creative team of the critically acclaimed production that opened the Lantern's 2011/12 season.

Christopher Hampton's Les Liaisons Dangereuses (The Dangerous Liaisons), a chilling portrayal of the mannered decadence and sexual cynicism of the French aristocracy in the last years of the ancien regime, will be presented by the Ira Brind School of Theater Arts at the University of the Arts as part of their 2011-12 season of plays and musicals November 3 to 6 at the Caplan Studio Theater.
