Berkeley Rep Awards 15 Fellowships For Upcoming Season

Today Berkeley Repertory Theatre announced that 15 college graduates from across the nation - including five natives of Northern California - have been awarded fellowships for the upcoming season.

Casey Reitz Appointed Executive Director of Second Stage Theatre

Casey Reitz, who is currently serving as the Director of Development at The Public Theater, has been named Executive Director at Second Stage Theatre, announced Founder and Artistic Director Carole Rothman. Mr. Reitz will join the award-winning company full-time in early September.

DEBUT OF THE MONTH: Kevin Mambo

This month, as part of our 'Debut of the Month' series, BroadwayWorld is shining the spotlight on actor Kevin Mambo who is making his Broadway debut as legendary Nigerian musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti in the Broadway musical Fela! RUINED Original Cast and Crew Reunites for Intiman Production, 7/9

Santa Rosa's 6th Street Playhouse announces its 2010-2011 'All-American' season featuring four musicals and eight plays. The twelve-show season offers a wide variety of theater productions, from Aug. 13, 2010 through June 26, 2011, including family musicals, comedies, American classics and two world premieres.

Intiman Theatre Announces RUINED Programming, 7/8-10/16

Intiman Theatre announces the schedule of its community and outreach programs for Lynn Nottage's play Ruined, the first production of the theatre's new International Cycle. Directed by Artistic Director Kate Whoriskey, Ruined will be co-produced this year by Intiman (opening July 9, 2010) and the Geffen Playhouse (opening September 15, 2010), the only two theatres in the country to reunite members of the play's original cast and design team from its award-winning, world-premiere production. New Black Play Festival to Hit New York this Fall; Nottage, Parks et al. Lend Support

Playwright Lynn Nottage, author of RUINED, hosted a fund-raising party for the New Black Fest, an upcoming festival which will 'showcase innovative work by and about black people,' The New York Times reports. The first New Black Fest will be held this fall and will feature readings and panel discussions; the festival's organizers and supporters are currently raising funds and seeking advisers.

Asolo Rep Presents THE INNOCENTS During 2010 UNPLUGGED Fest

Asolo Rep announces the selection of Steven Drukman's new play The Innocents for a fully staged world premiere in 2011. Chosen from five plays developed during Asolo Rep's 2010 UNPLUGGED new play festival, The Innocents will open in April 2011 as part of the repertory season and in conjunction with the 2011 UNPLUGGED festival of new plays.

New Federal Theatre Joins Castillo and National Black Theatre For Readings , Ends 6/27

During the month of June, New York City experienced a groundbreaking theatrical event. Woodie King, Jr.'s New Federal Theatre, in association with the Castillo Theatre on West 42nd Street and Harlem's National Black Theatre on 125th Street, present 25 plays by the greatest Black playwrights of all time. They are the pioneers of the Black Theatre Movement from the 1960s and up until the beginning of the new century, as well as those who are carrying on the work of giving dramatic expression to the Black experience.

Playwrights Horizons And NYTW Present THE SHAGGS: PHILOSOPHY OF THE WORLD Musical, Spring 2011

Playwrights Horizons (Artistic Director, Tim Sanford; Managing Director, Leslie Marcus) and New York Theatre Workshop (Artistic Director, James C. Nicola; Managing Director, William Russo) have announced that they will co-produce THE SHAGGS: PHILOSOPHY OF THE WORLD, a new musical with book by Joy Gregory; music by Gunnar Madsen; lyrics by Ms. Gregory and Mr. Madsen; and story by Ms. Gregory, Mr. Madsen and John Langs.

Oregon Shakespeare Festival Announces its 2010 Season

The Tony Award-winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival will celebrate its 75th anniversary this season, and while patrons will notice celebratory signs and banners as well as opportunities to sit in on historical lectures and talks throughout the season, the primary celebration is onstage. OSF has promised its audiences, to whom it has dedicated this milestone season that it will continue to focus energies on producing great plays this year.

OSF Features New Commissions From Diaz, Friedman, Galati, Hudes, Stew & Rodewald

At a press conference yesterday the Oregon Shakespeare Festival provided a comprehensive picture of the scope of new work underway over the next several season supported by grants totaling more than $800,000. OSF recently received a grant of $600,000 from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation over three years (2010-2012) for the decade-long commissioning, production, and public dialogue initiative American Revolutions: the United States History Cycle. The Edgerton Foundation of Los Angeles, California awarded OSF a four-year $200,000 grant to support the commissioning of five new American musicals, putting OSF in the unique position of creating new American musicals with a resident acting company.
