Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival to Present Halloween Radio Dramas

After wrapping up a critically acclaimed summer season under its outdoor theater tent, the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival is heading indoors. Under the direction of Mike Donahue (The Legend of Georgia McBride, Annie Baker's adaptation of Uncle Vanya), HVSF actors and Foley artists will transport audiences back to the classic age of radio drama in the intimate setting of the Boscobel Mansion to present Suspense! Halloween Radio, two spine-tingling radio dramas The Hitchhiker and Sorry, Wrong Number by Lucille Fletcher. Performances are October 28-31 and November 4-8. All performances begin at 7pm. A special reception will follow the performances on October 28 and October 31. Tickets for those performances are $70. Tickets for all other performances are $50. Seniors, members of the military, and students receive applicable discounts. Branden Jacobs-Jenkins & Dominique Morisseau to be Honored at 8th Annual 'Mimi' Awards

The Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust today announced that playwrights Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and Dominique Morisseau will be honored at the 2015 Steinberg Playwright Awards on Monday, November 16, 2015. Scenes highlighting their work will be performed at the 8th Annual 'Mimi' Awards, which will take place at Lincoln Center Theater.

MCC Theater Taps Television Star to Lead John Pollono's LOST GIRLS; Full Cast Set

MCC Theater has just announced the the New York premiere of John Pollono's Lost Girls, BroadwayWorld has confirmed.  Golden Globe nominated star of stage and screen, Piper Perabo-who recently completed five seasons of the USA's popular drama series "Covert Affairs" for which she received a Golden Globe Award nomination, and was last seen onstage in the Broadway and MCC Theater productions of Neil LaBute's Reasons to be Pretty-stars alongside Ebon Moss-Bachrach (HBO's "Girls"), Meghann Fahy (Next to Normal), Tasha Lawrence (Good People, The Whale), and newcomers Lizzy DeClement and Josh Green.

Last night two-time Tony Award-winner Viola Davis made history as the first African-American to win an Emmy in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category. In addition to her Emmy and Tonys, Davis has won three Drama Desks and three SAG Awards. Washington National Opera Announces Full Schedule for American Opera Initiative

WASHINGTON)—Washington National Opera (WNO) today announced details for the fourth season of the American Opera Initiative, its comprehensive commissioning program that brings contemporary American stories to the stage while fostering the talents of rising American composers and librettists. Three pairings of new opera composers and librettists—Christopher Weiss and John de los Santos, David Clay Mettens and Joshua McGuire, and Sarah Hutchings and Mark Sonnenblick—will premiere new one-act operas, each based on a contemporary American story, in a semi-staged concert performance on December 2, 2015 in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. Composer Luna Pearl Woolf and librettist Caitlin Vincent, an alumnus of the program's second season, will present their new hour-long work Better Gods—based on the life of Queen Lili'uokalani, the last monarch of Hawaii—on January 8 and 9, 2016 in the Terrace Theater.

Women's Voices Theater Festival to Welcome Tony Winner Lisa Kron for Launch Party

Tony Award-winning playwright Lisa Kron will be a featured guest and participant at the launch party of the Women's Voices Theater Festival on September 8 at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. The invitation-only event kicks off the beginning of the Festival, an unprecedented collaboration among professional theater companies that includes the presentation of more than 50 world-premiere productions of work by female playwrights, taking place this September and October in the nation's capital region. The launch party features a creative conversation between Kron and National Public Radio's Special Correspondent Susan Stamberg focused on gender parity in the arts in the Museum's Performance Hall, followed by a celebratory party and toast to officially declare the start of the Festival.
