Blumenthal Performing Arts Center Announces 2009-10 Season With Music, Comedy And Theatrical Events

Charlotte audiences can look forward to more than 30 special attractions representing the best music, comedy, and theatrical events available that are featured on the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center's 2009-10 season. They will also have additional opportunities to attend the best shows Broadway has to offer, as the Center announced today the extension of three of its Broadway shows with an extra week of The Aluminum Show, Jersey Boys, and Mary Poppins.

GOD OF CARNAGE's Jeff Daniels Plays Guitar 4/20 At Manhattan's City Winery

Jeff Daniels, currently starring in GOD OF CARNAGE at the Bernard Jacobs Theatre, will take his guitar and his Grandfather's Hat to Manhattan's City Winery (155 Varick Street) at 9pm on Monday, April 20th. Additional dates are 9pm on Monday, May 18th, and Monday, June 22nd.

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) presents the world premiere of a visionary work of epic proportions, War Music, adapted and directed by Lillian Groag (A.C.T.'s The Rivals) based on Christopher Logue's ravishing translation of the Iliad. In a wildly theatrical, totally modern interpretation of one of the mightiest conflicts of all time, Groag reignites the wrath of Greek warrior Achilles against his archrival, Agamemnon.

Kennedy Center Honors Dec.26; Martin, Ross, Scorsese Among Recipients

The 30th Annual Kennedy Center Honors will be broadcast tonight, December 26 on CBS at 9PM (Eastern). Recipients to be honored at this year's national celebration of the arts are pianist Leon Fleisher, actor and writer Steve Martin, singer Diana Ross, film director Martin Scorsese, and songwriter Brian Wilson.

High Fidelity: The Shop Around The Corner

The 13th performance of High Fidelity, also being the press performance I attended, wound up being the show's final night on Broadway. A pity. I much prefer reviewing enjoyable musicals than eulogizing them.
