Chicago Dramatists Welcomes Five New Resident Playwrights

Chicago Dramatists is proud to announce the addition of five new members to its esteemed list of Resident Playwrights. This group of talented writers includes Kristiana Colon, MT Cozzola, Steven Peterson, Robert Tenges, and Scott Woldman. Previous Resident Playwrights have included Tina Fey (30 Rock), Rick Cleveland (Mad Men), Rebecca Gilman (Spinning into Butter), Lydia R. Diamond (Stick Fly), Keith Huff (A Steady Rain), and Roger Rueff (The Big Kahuna).

ABT Partners with Columbia University for 2014 Innovation Initiative

American Ballet Theatre and the Arts Initiative at Columbia University have formed a new arts partnership that will offer students a unique, in-depth immersion into the process of creating a new ballet. It was announced today by Rachel Moore, ABT CEO and Melissa Smey, Executive Director of the Arts Initiative and Miller Theatre at Columbia University. The partnership was designed as a complement to American Ballet Theatre's Innovation Initiative, a two-week choreographic workshop spearheaded by Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie and ABT Principal Dancer David Hallberg.

TCG Welcomes New Appointments to Board of Directors

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, welcomes new officers and nine new members to its board of directors. Sarah Bellamy, co-artistic director of Penumbra Theatre Company, and Kevin Moriarty, artistic director of Dallas Theater Center, succeed Robert Hupp and Lydia R. Diamond as joint vice presidents. Jonathan Moscone, artistic director of California Shakespeare Theater, succeeds Ralph Bryan as secretary. Diane Rodriguez, associate artistic director of Center Theatre Group, and Tim Jennings, managing director of Children's Theatre Company, remain as president and treasurer, respectively.

Steppenwolf for Young Adults' New Adaptation of ANIMAL FARM Begins Tonight in Chicago

Steppenwolf for Young Adults (SYA) presents the first production of its 2014/15 season, George Orwell's Animal Farm, a world premiere adaptation by Althos Low. Directed by SYA Artistic and Educational Director Hallie Gordon, the cast of professional actors features Will Allan, Jasmine Bracey, Lucy Carapetyan, Amelia Hefferon, Matt Kahler, Mildred Marie Langford, Blake Montgomery, Dana Murphy, Lance Newton and Sean Parris. Animal Farm runs today, October 15 - November 9, 2014; the press performance is on Saturday, October 18 at 3pm.

Two hundred and fifty guests including former Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino joined Huntington Theatre Company Chairman Carol G. Deane, President Mitchell J. Roberts, Managing Director Michael Maso, and Artistic Director Peter DuBois, as well as Boston Center for the Arts Chairman Philip W. Lovejoy and Executive Director Veronique Le Melle on Monday, September 29 for a ribbon-cutting, rededication, and celebration in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts. Steppenwolf for Young Adults Sets ANIMAL FARM Cast, Running 10/15-11/9

Arena Stage Selects John Strand as Resident Playwright

Artistic Director Molly Smith announces D.C.-area based playwright John Strand will join Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater for a yearlong playwright residency as part of the American Voices New Play Institute, effective this month through June 2015. Through the residency Strand will receive a salary; health benefits; a budget to be used at his discretion to cover collaborator fees, workshop costs and research expenses to support his new play development process; and a commitment from Arena Stage to produce a new work in a future season and to continue cultivating an ongoing, long-term relationship.

Huntington Theatre Company Announces 2014-2016 Cohort of Playwriting Fellows

Huntington Theatre Company announces its 2014-2016 cohort of Huntington Playwriting Fellows: Mia Chung, John J King, Sam Marks, and Nina Louise Morrison. This artistically diverse group of writers begin their two-year residency in September. Past Huntington Playwriting Fellows include Ronan Noone (The Atheist, Brendan, and the upcoming The Second Girl), Lydia R. Diamond (Smart People, Stick Fly), Melinda Lopez (Becoming Cuba, Sonia Flew), Kirsten Greenidge (Luck of the Irish), Ryan Landry (Ryan Landry's "M"), and Rosanna Yamagiwa Alfaro (Before I Leave You) to name a few.

Rivendell Theatre Ensemble (RTE) Chicago's only Equity theatre devoted to the work of women theatre artists, and Artistic Director Tara Mallen are proud to announce the extension of the Chicago premiere of Courtney Baron's Eat Your Heart Out, directed by Hallie Gordon, through July 12 at Rivendell's performance venue, 5779 N. Ridge Ave. The performance schedule is Today - Fridays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays at 4 and 8 p.m. Please note: there are no performances Friday, July 4 or Saturday, July 5. The running time is approximately 80 minutes with no intermission. Tickets for the extension go on sale Tuesday, June 24 at 10 a.m. Tickets are $30 and may be purchased online at www.RivendellTheatre.org or by phone, 773.334.7728.

Open enrollment for Chicago Dramatists Summer Courses continues at www.chicagodramatists.org or 312-633-0630 for classes set to begin in mid-June. The quarterly schedule of courses is designed for beginning and experienced playwrights. Classes are taught by some of Chicago's finest writers, educators, dramaturgs and directors. First-timers, network/resident playwrights and college students receive discounted tuition.
