BalletX has announced Cayetano Soto as the company's 2016-17 Choreographic Fellowship Mentor and Tommie-Waheed Evans as the 2016-17 Fellow! Each year, BalletX selects a fellow from an intensely competitive field of applicants, as well as a mentor, for the company's Choreographic Fellowship Program. Generously supported by the Wyncote Foundation and currently in its second year, the program serves as an opportunity for emerging choreographers to set an original work on BalletX's ten dancers with guidance by a highly acclaimed mentor. Both mentor and fellow will create new works for BalletX, to be premiered in their forthcoming Spring Series, April 26-30, 2017.

In the summer of 2016, The School at Jacob's Pillow, a world renowned center for professional dance training with diversely experienced and international artists will present Professional Advancement Programs in Ballet, Contemporary, Musical Theatre Dance, and a new program titled Improv Traditions & Innovations: From Ring Shout to Blues to Jazz. The Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens observes African American History Month and the rich diversity of African American culture with AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY CELEBRATION AT THE LOS ANGELES ZOO on Saturday, February 7 and Sunday, February 8, 2015, 10 am to 4 pm, featuring programing co-curated by the research library at the California African American Museum (CAAM); a vibrant array of music and dance entertainment; crafts; and animal feedings, keeper talks and up-close visits with small animals, all spotlighting animals from Africa. Selections from the museum's permanent collection will be highlighted with educational signage adjacent to related animal exhibits and landmarks. Also on hand are Ragin Cajun, Sista Soul Food and Peaches Truck food trucks offering authentic flavors.
