Theatre, Dance & More on Tap for JACK's Winter/Spring 2016 Season

Clinton Hill cultural hub and OBIE award-winner JACK launches its winter/spring 2016 season with an a cappella opera set in Zimbabwe by composer Tanyaradzwa Tawengwa, a weekend of curated works by Modesto "Flako" Jimenez, the premiere of the dirty and bracing play Tom & Eliza, by Celine Song, the English-language premiere of Argentinian playwright Rafael Spregelburd's SPAM, The Geneva Project by Jennifer Harrison Newman, Antonio Ramos' Thirsty Mind, love and starvation sitting in a lonely tree and an exploration in minimalist/pop art performance by the No Face Performance Group.  JACK also engineers the return of Walter Dundervill's ARENA (which had two sold-out runs at JACK in 2014 and 2015). 

CT Rep to End 2014-15 Season with A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, 4/23-5/3

Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT) will end its 2014-2015 season with the Shakespeare classic A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Harriet S. Jorgensen Theatre between April 23rd and May 3rd. The comedy of mistaken love and magic is sure to delight audiences.

Contemporary Theatre of Dallas will make its New York debut in July 2014 with LONE STAR and LAUNDRY & BOURBON. The two one-acts by the widely-produced late playwright James McLure give a flavorful slice of life in rural Texas. Now in its 13th season, the celebrated regional theater company has been named 'Best Theatre Company' by the Dallas Observer. Their productions are regularly selected in the 'Top 10 Shows of the Year' from the Dallas Voice. LONE STAR and LAUNDRY & BOURBON, directed by Cynthia Hestand, will be performed at The Clurman Theatre (410 West 42nd Street) from July 5 to July 26. Scroll down for a sneak peek at both shows!

Pacific Northwest Ballet Presents DIRECTOR'S CHOICE, Now thru 3/23

For DIRECTOR'S CHOICE, the fourth program of Pacific Northwest Ballet's 2013-2014 season, Artistic Director Peter Boal selects from his roster of acquisitions and increases them by one: The captivating mixed-bill program will feature a much-anticipated world premiere by Alejandro Cerrudo, resident choreographer of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. The program also reprises audience favorites TAKE FIVE...More or Less, Broadway-darling Susan Stroman's sunny slice of jazz-infused Dave Brubeck fun; and Susan Marshall's distinctive aerial duet, Kiss. Rounding out the lineup is Molissa Fenley's State of Darkness, a tour-de-force solo performance set to Stravinsky's riot-inducing The Rite of Spring. DIRECTOR'S CHOICE runs for seven performances only, today, March 14 through 23 at Seattle Center's Marion Oliver McCaw Hall.

Pumpkin Theatre continues our 46th Season 'Discovering New Friendships Through Familiar Tales' with Seussical Jr. Follow the musical adventure of Horton, an elephant who one day hears voices coming from a speck of dust and spends the rest of his days protecting his new friends from WhoVille. The Cat in the Hat, Mayzie, Getrude McFuzz, The Wickersham Brothers, Jo Jo and more all join in on this mash up of Dr Seuss' favorite tales. Part of our 'Kids for Kids' series, this show will feature younger actors working with Pumpkin Artists to present a professional Main Stage Production. Performances take place today, February 8, 9, 15, & 16.

The Invisible Dog Presents Dance Installation THE PEOPLE TO COME, Begin. 6/25

a canary torsi's new multimedia project, THE PEOPLE TO COME, is a participatory performance installation that invites audience members to become part of the work unfolding before them. It is a multi-layered project that encompasses an interactive website, a physical archive at The Invisible Dog for audiences to create, submit and view material to the project, and a performance in the evening where dancers and musicians create work in front of the audience. Over the course of four hours, five dancers reinvent nineteen-minute solos drawing from visuals, videos, and text submitted by the audience.

With a new performance piece called Marco debuting, the excitiing ID's 3rd edition of Recession Art Show, the final weeks of Richard Garet's audio-visual installation Electrochroma, [and 2 live performances] the 2nd edition of Zero Film Festival and the closing of Yanira Castro's dance installation Wilderness, The Invisible Dog will warm you mind AND body (thanks in part to our giant industrial space-heaters!)
