Louis Armstrong House Museum Celebrates Louis' Birthday on July 4th

Louis Armstrong, an American Icon, shares his birthday with America. So before the fireworks, Louis Armstrong House Museum invites you to Corona to Louis's house. The museum is open from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. Special birthday historic house tours will be given that include rare, personal audio clips of Louis himself celebrating his birthday with friends and band members. These clips are only played once a year on July 4th. Children under 12 will enjoy a complimentary cupcake to celebrate, too.

Nick Ziobro, a 15-year old singer from Manlius, NY, is the 2012 winner of the Great American Songbook Vocal Academy and Competition, held in Carmel, Indiana. Judges included Michael Feinstein, Jim Caruso, Sylvia McNair, Sandi Patty and La Tanya Hall.

Louis Armstrong House Museum Wins Partners in Preservation Funds

Louis Armstrong House Museum was awarded $150,000 in discretionary funds from the Partners in Preservation (PIP) grant contest. The grant contest, sponsored by American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation, was New York City's first-ever preservation contest. The funds awarded to LAHM will be used to help restore Louis's Garden. Louis Armstrong celebrated his 71st birthday in his beloved garden, and then passed away two days later.

Ben Vereen Returns to San Francisco With STEPPIN' OUT, Now thru 6/17

Ben Vereen returns to The RRazz Room to with his show 'Steppin' Out with Ben Vereen,' a high energy tribute to the music of Broadway, along with musical selections made famous by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr. Audiences can expect to hear classics such as 'Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries,' 'Mr. Bojangles' and 'Defying Gravity.' Well known to theatre audiences for his Tony Award and Drama Desk winning performance in Pippin, Vereen has also appeared on Broadway in Wicked, Chicago, Fosse and Jelly's Last Jam. He is currently celebrating the release of his CD 'Steppin' Out Live.'

Broadway Beacon Awards Honor Nick Jonas, Christie Brinkley & More Tonight, 6/4

Inside Broadway's 2012 Broadway Beacon Awards will be held at 6:00PM tonight, June 4th, 2012 at the Hudson Theatre in the Millennium Broadway Hotel in the heart of Times Square at 145 West 44th Street. The evening will honor How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying star and singer/songwriter Nick Jonas, model, philanthropist and Chicago star Christie Brinkley (currently starring on Broadway before joining the national tour), I.A.T.S.E. President James J. Claffey, Jr., and The Millennium Broadway Hotel for their longstanding contributions to Times Square and the Broadway community. The evening, which begins with a cocktail hour, will be hosted by FOX5 reporter Julie Chang. The awards ceremony will begin at 7:30pm.

Jazz at Lincoln Center Presents Tribute to Phoebe Jacobs Tonight, 5/24

The Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation, and Jazz at Lincoln Center invite you to the Tribute to Phoebe Jacobs, in memoriam. The event will be held at Rose Theater, Frederick P. Rose Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center tonight, May 24, 2012 at 1 p.m. There will be no printed tickets for this event. Doors will open at 12:30pm, and attendees will be seated on a first come, first served basis.
