The Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra will open its 38th season with a performance of Dvorak's beloved "New World" Symphony and Gershwin's genre-defying Concerto in F featuring acclaimed pianist Wendy Chen at Santa Barbara's historic Lobero Theatre on Saturday, October 8.

The Metropolitan Opera will open its 132nd season, the 50th anniversary of its iconic Lincoln Center home, on Monday, September 26 with a new production of Wagner's epic tragedy Tristan und Isolde.

The Metropolitan Opera has just announced a cast change advisory. Janai Brugger will sing the role of Pamina in the December 20, 23, 26, 30 matinee, January 2 and 5 performances of Mozart's The Magic Flute, replacing Layla Claire, who has withdrawn due to pregnancy.

Artistic and General Director Andreas Mitisek announced Dr. Robert Braun has been selected president of the Long Beach Opera (LBO) Board of Directors, succeeding Sue Bienkowski, long-time board president. Lucas Meachem, the American baritone who performed the role of Figaro inThe Barber of Seville (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) in Fall 2015, was named '2016 Emerging Star of the Year' based on a popular vote conducted online and through social media.

 OPERA America, the national service organization for opera and the nation's leading champion for American opera, is pleased to announce that Timothy O'Leary, general director of Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, has been elected the new chairman of OPERA America's board of directors. He has been involved with OPERA America since 2006, when he participated in Leadership Advance, one of the organization's professional development programs. He joined OPERA America's board in 2011. O'Leary was elected chairman at OPERA America's recent annual business meeting — held during Opera Conference 2016 in Montreal — where eight new members were also elected to the board and three current members were re-elected to three-year terms. 

Dean Axelrod, Dawn Long, and Kristan O'Donnell have been elected to the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra Board of Directors. Each will serve a three-year term.
