Celebrate Black History Month with The Generic's steamy and sultry 'Hoodoo Love', as it conjures its magic in its regional debut, February 1-24, 2013 in Norfolk, Va.

The Whipping Man by Matthew Lopez will make its Bay Area premiere with the Marin Theatre Company in a production co-produced by Virgina Stage Company, in association with Lorraine Hansberry Theatre. Directed by Jasson Minadakis, the show will feature L. Peter Callender,* Nicholas Pelczar* and Tobie Windham* and will run March 28 - April 21.

The Studio Theatre presents From the Mississippi Delta by Endesha Ida Mae Holland, Ph.D, a story about the strength of women during The Civil Rights Movement told through live music and singing. From the Mississippi Delta will run from tonight, January 17 through Saturday, January 26, 2013.

The Hangar Theatre has announced the company's 39th Mainstage Season, which includes two beloved American classics and two regional premieres of cutting-edge new works fresh from Broadway and Off-Broadway. The 2013 season will kick off this summer with the classic American comedy Last of the Red Hot Lovers (June 13 - 29), followed by one of the greatest musicals of all time,Gypsy (July 4 - 20). Next is the regional premiere of 4000 Miles (July 25 - August 3), a highly acclaimed new play, followed by the regional premiere of the Tony- and Pulitzer-winning play Clybourne Park (August 8 - 17). Underground Railway Theater presents the recent Broadway hit and the 2010 Oliver Award Winner for Best New Play, The Mountaintop by Katori Hall. The Mountaintop is presented in celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. Underground Railway Theater's Associate Artistic Director, Megan Sandberg-Zakian, directs The Mountaintop. The press performance for The Mountaintop is Monday, January 14 at 7:30PM.

PlayMakers Repertory Company presents actor-playwright-composer Rinde Eckert's award-winning 'And God Created Great Whales' tonight, Jan. 9-13.

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded a grant to the Alliance Theatre to create a three-year Playwright In Residence staff position. Designed to advance the role of playwrights in American theatre, the goals of the residencies include providing playwrights with space, time and resources; and positively influencing the working environment of theatres by embedding playwrights on their staffs.

Considered by many to be one of the greatest plays of the 20th century, A Raisin in the Sun, Lorraine Hansberry's powerful drama, will open Friday, February 1 (8PM) at Palm Beach Dramaworks' Don & Ann Brown Theatre (201 Clematis Street). The production will play a strictly limited engagement through March 3, with specially priced preview performances on January 30 & 31. For twelve years, West Palm Beach's only professional, multi-award-winning resident theatre has brought to the Palm Beaches a distinguished roster of plays under the guidance of Producing Artistic Director William Hayes.

PlayMakers Repertory Company offers audiences two insightful looks at race and the meaning of home in productions of 'A Raisin in the Sun' and 'Clybourne Park,' to be performed in rotating repertory Jan. 26 to March 3. PlayMakers is the professional theater in residence at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded a $174,000 three-year playwright residency grant to Kansas City Repertory Theatre for Nathan Louis Jackson to join the Rep's artistic staff. The award is one of 14 Mellon residency grants made in December 2012. Jackson, an award-winning playwright and a native of Kansas City, Kansas, will begin his residency in July 2013.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the man and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the leader merge in Katori Hall's award-winning drama The Mountaintop, receiving its Philadelphia premiere at Philadelphia Theatre Company on January 18-February 17 at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (Broad and Lombard Streets). Directed by Patricia McGregor, the two-person cast features Sekou Laidlow and Amirah Vann.

Denzel Washington, who was last seen on Broadway in Fences, winning a 2010 Tony Award, has been telling the press in interviews that he was headed back to the stage in 2014. Now, Michael Riedel of the New York Post reports today that the show will be A RAISIN IN THE SUN, directed by Kenny Leon and produced by Scott Rudin. Washington will play Walter Lee Younger in the show, which is hoping to hit the stage in the Spring of 2013.
