Utah Symphony Announces Contract Extension for Conner Gray Covington Through 2019-20 Season

Utah Symphony Utah Opera President & CEO Paul Meecham and Music Director Thierry Fischer announced an extension of Assistant Conductor Conner Gray Covington's contract through the 2019-20 season, and a new title as Associate Conductor beginning in September 2018. The agreement extends the current contract, set to expire at the end of the 2017-18 season, for an additional two years. Mr. Covington assumed the role of Assistant Conductor in September 2017.

Jeffrey Siegel to Take the Stage for Third Concert of 2017-18

Hailed as an artist who means every note he plays (New York Times), internationally acclaimed pianist Jeffrey Siegel brings power and passion to his celebrated Keyboard Conversations returning to Folsom for his seventh season. He has been called The Leonard Bernstein of the piano (Chicago Tribune). This January, Mr. Siegel will present THE EXOTIC MUSIC OF THE NIGHT. The program includes Saint Saen's eerie Dance Macabre, Mendelssohn's Midsummer Night Dream, Scriabin's exultant Fourth Piano Sonata, Bartok's mysterious Night Music, and glorious Nocturnes of Chopin.

San Francisco Opera Center Announces 2018 Adler Fellows

San Francisco Opera Center Director Sheri Greenawald today announced the eleven recipients of the 2018 Adler Fellowship. Eight singers, two pianist/apprentice coaches and one director will take part in the program. The multi-year performance-oriented residency offers advanced young artists intensive individual training, coaching and professional seminars, as well as a wide range of performance opportunities. Adler Fellows are selected from the artists who have participated in the Merola Opera Program. The prestigious fellowship has nurtured the development of more than 175 young artists since its inception.

The GVO Performs Rachmaninoff, Daugherty, and Shostakovich, 12/2

On Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 7:30pm, The Greenwich Village Orchestra (GVO) performs Resistance, a thrilling concert of grand orchestral repertoire including Rachmaninoff's Vocalise featuring GVO concertmaster Andrew Pak, Michael Daugherty's Raise the Roof with principal timpanist Gerard Gordon in the athletic solo role, and Shostakovich's defiant Symphony No. 10 at Good Shepherd-Faith Presbyterian Church (152 West 66th St.). The concert is part of GVO's 2017-2018 season On the Town, a celebration of its home borough of Manhattan led by Music Director Barbara Yahr.

The program includes Debussy's Clair de lune and sexy Isle of Joy, Ravel's colorful The Fountain and beloved Pavane for a Dead Princess, and Satie's sassy Rag Time Prelude.

DRACULA, Accompanied by Kronos Quartet, to Haunt Segerstrom Center

The Philharmonic Society of Orange County and Segerstrom Center for the Arts will co-present Tod Browning's 1931 film classic DRACULA starring Bela Lugosi with original music by Philip Glass performed live by the legendary composer at the piano, the Grammy Award-winning Kronos Quartet, with Michael Riesman directing from the keyboard.

Franz Welser-M st will lead concerts on three continents as part of The Cleveland Orchestra's 100th season in 2017-18, including two trips to Europe, appearances in New York City, and a return to Tokyo's Suntory Hall. Bernstein's Philharmonic Celebrates Centennial Festival, 10/25–11/14

The New York Philharmonic will present Bernstein's Philharmonic: A Centennial Festival, October 25-November 14, 2017,celebrating the former Philharmonic Music Director and Laureate Conductor on the centennial of his birth. The festival - which is part of the worldwide salute to the legacy of the renowned composer, conductor, pianist, and educator - will center on Bernstein's symphonic cycle, conducted by Alan Gilbert and Leonard Slatkin, complemented by other Bernstein works as well as by music by composers he admired and championed. In addition, the Philharmonic will present a Young People's Concert - the series that Bernstein famously brought to national attention through the television broadcasts - titled Inspirations and Tributes: "Celebrating Leonard Bernstein," conducted by Leonard Slatkin and featuring pianist Makoto Ozone on November 11. A number of other events - ranging from a marathon of Bernstein's Mahler recordings to a partnership with Harvard and University of Michigan to explore Bernstein as an educator and conductor - complement the concerts throughout the centennial season. Bernstein served as the Philharmonic's Music Director from 1958 to 1969, when he was named Laureate Conductor, a title he held until his death in 1990.
