It was theatre magic at its best: rain lightly came down on closing night as the entire cast of LES MISERABLES at The Muny belted out 'The Epilogue' one more time. The audience lept to their feet as the final notes hung in the air. All week long, The Muny experienced a complete standing ovation before the curtain call began, something that Muny goers said hasn't happened in at least 35 years. The cast of LES MISERABLES experienced the audience's appreciation all week long and their final performance was no exception.

Victor Hugo's novel, LES MISERABLES, was re-imagined in the early 1980's as a very successful musical (lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer (adapted from the French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel) and score by Claude-Michel Schonberg)) that has continued to captivate audiences. Although I wasn't especially fond of the touring show that passed through last year, The Muny's current production is a revelation. The scope of this work is an ideal match for The Muny's expansive stage, and I highly recommend this terrific presentation.

On Friday evening, May 24, Playbill's Blake Ross and BroadwayWorld.com's Rob and Jennifer Diamond co-hosted the only birthday party that took two editors of two major theatre web sites to plan ... Director/Producer Richard Jay-Alexander's 60th Birthday Bash! The party, held on the third floor of theatre district hot spot Angus McIndoe's restaurant, played host to friends, family, colleagues and more, so we couldn't resist sharing some of Linda Lenzi's wonderful pictures with you. The Muny announced principal casting for the fifth show of its fantastic 95th season, Les Miserables. Broadway veterans Hugh Panaro and Norm Lewis make their Muny debuts starring as Jean Valjean and Javert, respectively. Also starring is Michael McCormick as Thenardier. The production is directed by Richard Jay-Alexander, who served as the associate director and executive producer of the original Broadway, touring and Canadian companies of Les Miserables.
