Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, is pleased to announce the recipients of the Edgerton Foundation New Play Awards for the 2014-15 season. The awards, totaling $858,000, allow 26 productions extra time in the development and rehearsal of new plays with the entire creative team, helping to extend the life of the play after its first run.

Today, we celebrate the birthday of Emily Whitlow, a 17-year-old (or is she 18 today?) student at Ravenwood High School in neighboring Williamson County. A native of New York, Emily moved to Tennessee with her family at the age of 15 and since then she has appeared in several school productions, including her turn as Dolly Gallagher Levi in Hello, Dolly! during her sophomore year. In addition she's appeared in Circle Players' bare and Shrek the Musical and Promises, Promises at Boiler Room Theatre.

Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) has announced that the new 2014/15 national tour of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Andy Blankenbuehler, will play March 17-29 at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts in Houston.

Inspired by the book 'Alexander Hamilton' by Ron Chernow, with book, music, and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and directed by Thomas Kail, Hamilton will now run an additional four weeks through Sunday, May 3 with an official press opening on Tuesday, February 17, as BroadwayWorld reported yesterday. Miranda and some of his castmates recently chatted with the New York Times about the young men that they are playing. Miranda commented: 'Not just young people but people. We have deified them so much; they're on rocks in South Dakota. But they were people, and the flaws they had creep into everything we have now. The fights Jefferson and Hamilton have in the show are the fights we are still having.'

According to the New York Post, Lin-Manuel Miranda's new musical Hamilton, currently in an extended run through April 5 at the Public Theater, might cut its off-Broadway stay short in order to open on Broadway before April 23rd, the Tony Awards cutoff date.

HAMILTON began performances on Tuesday, January 20 and has been extended twice through April 5, with an official press opening on Tuesday, February 17 at the Public Theater. This world premiere musical features a book, music, and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda; is inspired by the book 'AlexanderHamilton' by Ron Chernow; with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler; and directed byThomas Kail. The New Yorker's Rebecca Mead just profiled Miranda, writing about his writing process, time in ehearsals and more! Miranda told TNY: "I really got my 'Les Miz' on in this score, like being really smart about where to reintroduce a theme. In terms of how it accesses your tear ducts, nothing does it better than that show."
