Letterkenny's An Grianán Theatre embarks on its most ambitious production to date with a full professional production of Brian Friel's The Enemy Within. Starring Donegal native Seán McGinley in the lead role of Columba/Colmcille, the production will be one the key events in the Colmcille 1500, which celebrates the life and legacy of Colmcille 1500 years from his birth.

Graham McLaren and Neil Murray, Directors of the Abbey Theatre today announced the cast for the upcoming production of Patrick Kavanagh's poem The Great Hunger.

Each armed with a pint, they follow the same ritual (in no particular order): grumbling, swapping accounts of life events, discussing current affairs, daydreaming, counseling, reminiscing, philosophizing and idling in the comfortable silences in between. Roddy Doyle, influential Irish novelist, playwright, and screenwriter, has ubiquitously made his mark in literature, on screen, and on stage. Impressively, whilst Two Pints runs at The Abbey, his novel-adapted-into-play The Snapper is running concurrently at The Gate.

For Bloomsday 2019, Irish actress Eilin O'Dea will perform 'Molly Bloom by James Joyce,' the American premiere of her tour de force rendition of Joyce's best known and most complex female character.  Shows will be June 13-15 and 19-22 at The Theater at 244, 244 West 54th Street (10 fl.) and June 16 as part of 'Bloomsday on Broadway XXXVIII' at Peter Jay Sharp Theatre of Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway at 95th Street.  The performance, lifted verbatim from the Penelope episode of 'Ulysses,' has brought O'Dea critical acclaim in Ireland and Europe for her no-holds-barred, candid look into Molly Bloom's whirling mind.

'Lost & Found' is 7 interconnecting stories set in and around a lost & found office of an Irish train station. All segments are inspired by true stories, share a theme of something lost or found and characters that come in and out of each other's lives.

On the heels of an acclaimed tour to dozens of local pubs dotting the Irish countryside, Chicago Shakespeare Theater welcomes Abbey Theatre's Two Pints to The Pub at Chicago Shakespeare for a limited Chicago engagement, March 6-31, 2019. Written by Booker-Prize-winning novelist Roddy Doyle and directed by Caitriona McLaughlin, the production invites audiences to pull up a stool in the Theater's intimate lobby gathering space for an immersive, site-specific theatrical experience, starring Liam Carney and Philip Judge. Over the course of a few rounds, their characters' banter evolves into a wide-reaching and deeply revealing dialogue on life, loss, and vegetarianism-hailed 'achingly, breathtakingly funny' by The Sunday Independent.

After last year's sell-out tour of pubs across Ireland, the Abbey Theatre's Two Pints by Roddy Doyle is back for another round stopping off at pubs in Ireland and the UK. Directed by Caitriona McLaughlin, Two Pints will head back on the road in August and September. The tour kicks off in The Flowing Tide on Lower Abbey Street in Dublin, before performances in Carlow, Louth, Longford, Derry, Newcastle upon Tyne and Sunderland.

As I watched Martin McDonagh's The Cripple of Inishmaan, some painful recollections surfaced from my childhood about Ireland and its people. My mother was second generation Irish, her parents Irish immigrants who declared quite emphatically that they were happy in America and never wanted to return to their homeland, even for a visit. My mother relayed this information to me with tears in her eyes as she recalled how her mother, my maternal grandmother, would never care to endure again her harsh existence in turn of the century Ireland. The characters in McDonagh's play, circa 1934, are desperately lonely creatures, forced to take it out on those closest to them for want and need of a better way of life. Now at the Kirk Douglas Theatre. the Druid and Atlantic Theatre Company return to LA on tour in their rightfully acclaimed production of ...Inishmaan.

Druid's The Cripple of Inishmaan by award-winning playwright Martin McDonagh closes at CST's Courtyard Theater, March 27, 2011, complemented by a special engagement of Give Me Your Hand Upstairs at Chicago Shakespeare on March 27.
