One of Italy's greatest treasures, Leonardo da Vinci's 'Codex on the Flight of Birds,' will be exhibited at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., for 40 days this fall, from today, Sept. 13 until Oct. 22. The extraordinary document, created ca. 1505, shows da Vinci's interest in human flight by exploring bird flight and behavior. It includes sketches and descriptions of devices and aerodynamic principles related to mechanical flight that predate the invention of the airplane by 400 years.

Orpheus Chamber Orchestra opens its 41st season at Carnegie Hall with their first of four concerts tracing the evolution of the concerto over four centuries and the composer/performers who created them. Featuring the New York premiere of composer/pianist Brad Mehldau's Variations for Piano and Orchestra on a Melancholy Theme for piano and chamber orchestra, the program also includes Brahms' Liebeslieder Waltzes and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, Eroica. The performance will take place at Stern Auditorium's Perelman Stage in Carnegie Hall on Wednesday, October 9 at 8 p.m. Tickets are available beginning September 4 at www.carnegiehall.org. I have been pretty vocal with my feeling that the entertainment value of this season of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE has been lacking a bit. However, while there still hasn't been a singular defining moment this season, as the numbers dwindled, the entertainment skyrocketed. Tonight was the most enjoyable evening of reality television that I have seen in a long, long time. With the final-four dancing 14 routines, in every imaginable combination, we were treated to a remarkable evening that had very few missteps.
