The Film Society of Lincoln Center announces its upcoming film series and events:

Lunar Energy Productions will present the World Premiere of By Rights We Should Be Giants, created and written by Lunar Energy ensemble members Nadia Sepsenwol and Tim Van Dyck, tonght, October 18-November 3 at The Secret Theatre (4402 23rd Street between 44th Avenue and 44th Road, Long Island City).

The Film Society of Lincoln Center's annual horror fest Scary Movies returns for its 6th edition featuring a blood-curdling collection of first-time New York City screenings of highly anticipated horror films and thrillers, genre rarities and fan favorites.

Anna Karenina is a 2012 drama film directed by Joe Wright that is adapted from Leo Tolstoy's 1877 novel of the same name. It stars Keira Knightley, Jude Law, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The film just released new stills after its premiere at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival last week, and you can check them out below!

Artistic Director Sean Murray is proud to announce Cygnet Theatre's second World Premiere production - acclaimed local writer Richard Platt's RIPPLES FROM WALDEN POND - An Evening with Henry David Thoreau. This production, which began as a staged-reading in collaboration with Write Out Loud, will once again feature Cygnet Resident Artist Francis Gercke as Thoureau, and will be directed by Eric Poppick. RIPPLES FROM WALDEN POND will run for four performances only, April 16th, 17th, 23rd, and 24th at 7:30pm. All four performances will take place at Cygnet Theatre in Old Town State Historic Park.

La MaMa presents the American premiere of London's Gate Theatre's production of THE KREUTZER SONATA through March 25.

Stage Left Studio's Left Out Festival will celebrate itss fifth year from April 14 to April 25, with fourteen performances selected by producers Cheryl King and Joe Hutcheson. The Festival includes three premieres, three popular favorites, and selected shorts from upcoming new works and current offerings at Stage Left Studio. The festival highlights gay and lesbian theatre artists while benefiting Bailey House.

Chekhovek, a new comedy adapted and directed by Melania Levitsky from nine of Anton Chekhov's best known short stories, is given its New York premiere at the ArcLight Theatre, 152 West 71st Street.

When it was first published in 1889, Leo Tolstoy's The Kreutzer Sonata immediately became a cause celebre and was banned by the Russian authorities for its explicit portrayal of the corrupting power of sexual obsession and jealousy. Tolstoy had been inspired by the Beethoven piece of the same name and hoped one day to see his work performed to the accompaniment of music.
