HBO announced today that the third season of its Emmy-winning series, created and starring Lena Dunham, will premiere on Sunday, Jan. 12 with back-to-back episodes, beginning at 10 p.m. EST. The network's new drama TRUE DETECTIVE, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, will premiere prior to GIRLS at 9 p.m., according to EW.
On Tuesday, the David Lynch Foundation and the New York City Mayor's Office to Combat Domestic Violence announced a partnership to bring Transcendental Meditation to victims of domestic violence across New York City to help them heal from trauma and abuse. Commissioner Yolanda B. Jimenez of the Mayor's Office was honored at the event with the David Lynch Foundation's Lifetime of Service Award for her dedication to victims of domestic violence. Award-winning photographer and conceptual artist Laurie Simmons and her daughter, Lena Dunham, best known for writing, directing, producing, and acting in the HBO program Girls, will be honored at the eleventh annual Women in the Arts luncheon on Thursday, November 14, 2013. This is the first time the benefit will jointly honor two recipients--a mother-daughter pair. Proceeds from the event will benefit the many educational and artistic programs offered by the Brooklyn Museum and its Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art.
