Porchlight Music Theatre Begins Season With A CLASS ACT, 9/1-10/7

Porchlight Music Theatre launches its 18th season with the Chicago premiere of A Class Act, September 1 - October 7, at Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont Ave. A Class Act's music and lyrics are by Edward Kleban and the book is by Linda Kline and Lonny Price.

'A for Adultery,' a dramatic musical based on Hawthorne's 'The Scarlet Letter' by veteran composer/playwright Paul Dick, will be presented September 14 to 30, 2012 by Passajj Productions at Little Times Square Theatre (of Roy Arias Studios & Theatres,) 300 W 43rd Street (4 fl.), Manhattan, directed by Marlene Thorn Taber.

New Line Theatre, 'the bad boy of musical theatre,' has secured the rights to three premieres for its 22nd season of alternative, adult musical theatre -- the outrageous emo rock musical BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON, running Sept. 27-Oct. 20, 2012; the powerhouse Pulitzer Prize-winning rock opera NEXT TO NORMAL, running Feb. 28-March 23, 2013; and the hilariously dark, adult musical comedy BUKOWSICAL, running May 30-June 22, 2013.

In February 2011, Mark T Evans and William TN Hall under the umbrella of TNT Music debuted a new song series, designed to benefit important causes whilst showcasing the current work of new musical theatre writers. The first two editions have been huge successes and have comprised of material from musical theatre writers from all over NYC and beyond, from prestigious institutions such as the NYU Graduate MT Writing Program and the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop, performed by a small ensemble of professional actors. The series held a concert last night, August 5, at Don't Tell Mama, which continues tonight at 7pm. This third edition benefits Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The series is coordinated by William TN Hall Musical with direction by Mark T Evans and directed by Adam Fitzgerald today, August 5th and Monday, August 6th 2012 at 7:00pm at Don't Tell Mama NYC W 46th between 8th and 9th.

The BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop is now accepting applications for its first year composer/lyricist class. The August 1, 2012 deadline is quickly approaching and applicants are asked to send in the requested materials as soon as possible. The Workshop begins September 17, 2012, and runs through June 2013. A recipient of the Tony Honors for Excellence in Theatre Award, the Lehman Engel Musical Workshop consists of approximately 250 composers, lyricists and book writers who are actively writing new works for the musical theatre.

New York Theatre Barn to Launch 6th Annual NYTB Concert Series, 7/9

New York Theatre Barn (Joe Barros, Artistic Director; Jason Najjoum, Producing Director; Barry Levine, Managing Director) will launch the 6th consecutive year of its acclaimed monthly platform for emerging musical theater writers, NYTB in the D-Lounge, on July 9, 2012 at the D-Lounge of the Daryl Roth Theatre. Featured writing teams will be Charlie Sohne and Tim Rosser, and Adam Spiegel and Dan Wolpow, all alumni of the Tony Award-winning BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop. Featured writers for later months in the 6th season will be announced at a later date.

The University of Texas at Austin, in collaboration with Texas State University-San Marcos, is offering the inaugural Texas Musical Theatre Workshop. This unique program brings New York's Broadway talent to Texas, serving as an incubator for the development of new musicals by professional artists. The creative team of Giant Steps: An Urbean Musical has been invited to include their new musical as part of the workshop this year.

The hour-long concert, featuring musical direction by Wicked's Walter Thompson, will showcase original work by up-and-coming writers Nick Blaemire, Jeff Bowen, Rob Hartmann, Natalie Lovejoy, Robby Sandler and Daniel Green, Dustin Sullivan and Elyssa Samsel, and David Alan Thornton and by beloved musical theatre luminaries Jason Robert Brown, Pasek and Paul, and Stephen Sondheim. Additionally, Miss Taraska will duet with special guests David Alan Thornton, Dustin Sullivan and Nikki MacCallum and debut selections from her own musical catalogue.
