JUST SHUT UP & SMILE! Comes to Looking Glass Theatre 3/16 - 4/3

I ATE WHAT? THEATRE, in conjunction with The Looking Glass Theatre Space Grant Program, is pleased to announce the return of Simona Berman’s acclaimed JUST SHUT UP & SMILE!, directed by Diana Basmajian. JUST SHUT UP & SMILE! will play a special limited engagement at The Looking Glass Theatre (422 West 57th Street, btw 9th/10th Ave). Performances begin Monday, March 16 and continue thru Friday, April 3.

Medicine Show Announces Gruen's DOUBLE FEATURE 3/19-4/19

MEDICINE SHOW THEATRE ENSEMBLE, one of NYC's longest-running experimental theatres, is pleased to announce the World Premiere of 'DOUBLE FEATURE,' an evening of two cinematically-inspired short plays by JOHN GRUEN. The production plays from March 19th through April 19th with an opening set for Friday, March 27th. The production plays at MEDICINE SHOW THEATRE, 549 West 52nd St., 3rd Floor (between 10th and 11th Ave.).

La MaMa to Present US Premiere of 'Tonight: Lola Blau' Mar. 13 - 22

From March 13 to 22, The Club at La MaMa E.T.C. will present the U.S. premiere of 'Tonight: Lola Blau,' written and composed by Georg Kreisler, English version by Don White, directed by Dick Top (Holland), featuring Anna Kr?mer (Germany) as Lola. This U.S. premiere is an opportunity for NY audiences to savor one of Europe's 'big little' musicals and its unforgettable holocaust themes. The piece depicts a rising, charismatic, Dietrich-style cabaret singer who is forced to flee Austria because of her Jewish heritage, taking refuge in the U.S. She makes do with 'survival jobs' on Tin Pan Alley until her sensational return to her homeland after the war, when she discovers that nothing much has changed.

Fonda Led 33 VARIATIONS Tickets Now On Sale

Oscar & Emmy Award winning screen legend JANE FONDA will return to Broadway in MOISES KAUFMAN's 33 VARIATIONS. Performances begin on Monday, February 9th, 2009 at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre (230 West 49th Street). The official opening will be Monday, March 9th, 2009. The engagement will play through May 24th, 2009. Tickets are now available for sale to the general public.

Full Cast of HAIR Lined Up; Previews Begin March 6, 2009

Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director of The Public Theater, has announced the 26-member Broadway cast of HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical. Newcomers to the cast include Gavin Creel, Caissie Levy and Sasha Allen, who join the rest of the tribe, who are reprising their roles from Central Park last summer. Currently in rehearsal at the Union Square Theatre, HAIR begins preview performances on Friday, March 6 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street, NYC) with an Opening Night set for Tuesday, March 31, 2009.

The Stage Society presented the play in 1901 but it was not seen again until the Royal Shakespeare Company produced it in 1975 with Mia Farrow in the title role. 'Its absence from the stage for more than two generations was unfortunate for English drama:' writes Dennis Kennedy in Granville Barker and the Dream of Theater, 'It is an extraordinary piece...' The play has never been produced in the U.S.

Jon Robin Baitz And Jo Bonney Join The New School Staff

The New School for Drama has announced that two award-winning artists, playwright Jon Robin Baitz and director Jo Bonney, will be joining the faculty for the Spring 2009 semester. Baitz will be teaching Playwriting and Bonney will be instructing a course on Directing Short Plays. Baitz will be teaching while faculty member Michael Weller is on leave.

New School for Drama Announces 'First Look' Performance Series

The New School for Drama is pleased to present FIRST LOOK, a performance series featuring workshop presentations of classical and contemporary works. This year's FIRST LOOK performances will be directed by 3 Drama League Directing Fellows and include The Pillars of Society (October 15-18), written by Henrik Ibsen, Stage Door (November 5-8), written by Edna Ferber and George S. Kaufman and All's Well that End's Well (December 10-13) written by William Shakespeare. All are free and open to the public.

New School for Drama Announces John Turturro as 08/09 Artist-in-Residence

The New School for Drama has announced that award-winning actor John Turturro will be the distinguished Artist-in-Residence for the 2008-09 academic year. Turturro is the recipient of a multitude of awards and accolades for his extensive acting work in theater, film and television.

Naked Angels To Present Off-Bway Premiere of 'The Talk'

New York's eternally boundary-pushing theater company Naked Angels (Geoffrey Nauffts, Artistic Director and Brittany O'Neill, Managing Director) has announced that it will present the Off Broadway premiere of The Talk, a new American play by Frank Pugliese, directed by Sheryl Kaller.

Megan Mullally To Host Actor's Fund Gala on 5/5

Emmy-winning actress and singer Megan Mullally, who is currently playing Elizabeth in Mel Brooks' musical version of Young Frankenstein on Broadway, will be hosting the 2008 Actors Fund Gala in New York on May 5th. The event, which is being held at Cipriani 42nd Street, will honor Alec Baldwin, Renee Fleming, Stewart F. Lane and Bonnie Comley.
