Jake Broder, Elijah Rock and Angela Teek Lead WORDS BY IRA GERSHWIN, Starting Tonight at The Colony

The Colony Theatre is thrilled to present the final production of its historic 40th Anniversary season, the Los Angeles Premiere of WORDS BY IRA GERSHWIN A Musical Play by Joseph Vass, directed by David Ellenstein, Musical Director Kevin Toney, Musical Arranger Joseph Vass. WORDS BY IRA GERSHWIN will preview today, April 15; Thursday, April 16; and Friday, April 17 at 8:00pm. It will open on Saturday, April 18 at 8:00pm and continue through Sunday, May 17.

THE JOY OF SAX Begins Later This Month at 59E59 Theaters

59E59 Theaters will welcome Peter and Will Anderson with THE JOY OF SAX, featuring Pat Bianchi on the Hammond B-3 Organ. Produced by Reardon-Anderson Music, LLC., THE JOY OF SAX begins performances on Tuesday, April 28 for a limited engagement through Thursday, May 7. The performance schedule is Tuesday - Thursday at 7 PM; Friday at 8 PM; Saturday at 5 PM & 8 PM; Sunday at 3 PM. Single tickets are $45 ($31.50 for 59E59 Members). Gabrielle Stravelli Performs Tonight at New Jersey's Watchung Arts Center

GABRIELLE STRAVELLI - the acclaimed pop/jazz vocalist called 'ingenious' by The Wall Street Journal and known from her tours with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, appearances at the 92nd Street Y and her long-running Soho jazz brunch - will join tenor saxophonist Ed Finkel as he brings a group of well-known New York jazz artists to the Heinz W. Otto Gallery at the Watchung Arts Center in Watchung, NJ tonight, March 28 at 8 PM. A dessert reception will follow the performance.

Trio da Paz Set for Cooperstown Summer Music Festival, 8/17

Trio da Paz returns to the Cooperstown Summer Music Festival on Sunday, August 17 at 7:30 pm. With three of Brazil's most in-demand musicians, Trio da Paz updates and redefines Brazilian jazz with their harmonically adventurous interactions, daring improvisations and dazzling rhythms. Trio da Paz was formed in 1990 by guitarist Romero Lubambo, bassist Nilson Matta, and drummer Duduka da Fonseca, all seasoned masters of both jazz and Brazilian music.

PRISM Quartet Announces Release of PEOPLE'S EMERGENCY CENTER

In tandem with the recently announced Heritage/Evolution, PRISM Quartet announces the release of their new 2-disc recording People's Emergency Center, Music for Saxophones by Matthew Levy. Street Date: May 27, 2014 on Innova Recordings. The album features seven distinctive jazz voices as guest artists: Tim Ries, soprano saxophone, Rudresh Mahanthappa, alto saxophone, Jason Moran, piano, Ben Monder, guitar, Jay Anderson, bass, Bill Stewart, drums, and François Zayas, percussion.

Brazilian Ensemble Trio da Paz Performs at Zankel Hall, 4/5

On Saturday, April 5 at 9:30 p.m. in Zankel Hall, guitarist Romero Lubambo, bassist Nilson Matta, and drummer Duduka da Fonseca-the three renowned Brazilian musicians that make up Trio da Paz-perform a program featuring the works of famed Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim and celebrated American tenor saxophonist Stan Getz. The trio, known for its innovative take on Brazilian jazz, is joined for this program by tenor saxophonist Harry Allen, vibraphonist Joe Locke, and vocalist Maucha Adnet. This concert is presented by Carnegie Hall in partnership with Absolutely Live Entertainment LLC.

'Newport Jazz Festival(R): Now 60' Tour to Launch 2/8

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the world-renowned Newport Jazz Festival (August 1-3, 2014), clarinetist/saxophonist Anat Cohen, vocalist/pianist Karrin Allyson, bassists Larry Grenadier and Ben Allison, pianist Peter Martin, guitarist Mark Whitfield, trumpeter Randy Brecker, and drummer Clarence Penn embark on the 17-city 'Newport Jazz Festival: Now 60' Tour, February 8 - March 30, 2014, with more dates during June, July and August in North America and Europe.

Dave Stryker/Jay Anderson to Play the Seligmann Center for the Arts, Sugar Loaf NY Sun, Oct 20th 3PM

He's on the faculty of one of the most prestigious jazz education institutions in the country: Indiana University. He's spent years as a sideman for acclaimed jazz saxophonist Stanley Turrentine. The Village Voice calls him '...one of the most distinctive guitarists to come along in years.' He's been voted one of the Top Ten Guitarists by Down Beat Magazine's Reader's Poll. He's worked alongside such jazz luminaries as Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Lovano and Eliane Elias. He's recorded nearly 25 albums as a leader and about that many more as a sideman with innumerable internationally recognized jazz artists. His name: Dave Stryker. He's one of the most in-demand bassists on the contemporary music scene today. He lives in the Hudson Valley. His first gigs were with Woody Herman and Carmen McRea. Having moved from California to New York, he's worked with Michael Brecker, Elian Elias, Michael Franks, Vic Juris, Adam Nussbaum, Clark Terry, Bob Brookmeyer, Lee Konitz, Frank Zappa, Michel LeGrand Celine Dione (Gammy winning FALLING INTO YOU) and even poet, Allen Ginsberg. Beside all of those credentials, he is distinguished Professor of Jazz Bass Studies at Manhattan School of Music. His name: Jay Anderson. Although Mssrs. Stryker and Anderson have been colleagues for many years in large ensembles, their appearance strictly as a jazz duo will be their first. They appear Sunday, October 20th 3:00 p.m. at the platonic new Orange County performance space, Seligman Center for the Arts, 23 White Oak Drive, Sugar Loaf (Chester), New York.

All Nite Soul to Honor Barry Harris & Sheila Jordan, 10/13

All Nite Soul, the Jazz Ministry at Saint Peter's will honor pianist Barry Harris and vocalist Sheila Jordan. All Nite Soul begins on Sunday, October 13 at 5 PM with Jazz Vespersand pianist/organist Sarah McLawler and Les Jazz Femmes, and goes into full swing at 7 PM with a concert of over 80 musicians honoring Barry Harris (pianist) and Sheila Jordan (vocalist), National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters who began their musical careers in Detroit, Michigan.
