Billy Porter, 2013 Tony Award Winner for Best Actor in a Musical (Kinky Boots) surprised students of Broadway Artists Alliance Summer Intensive Session One with his appearance on July 25th. Porter entertained the students with tales of his experiences. In addition, he participated in a Q&A, answering student's questions and providing advice for young performers. Segerstrom Center for the Arts' free Movie Mondays will now present Disney's Academy Award-nominated animated feature Mulan on July 22.Mulan replaces The Lion King, previously announced for this year's Movie Mondays. Celebrating the 15th year of its release, Mulan is based on a Chinese legend about the only daughter of an aged warrior. To protect him and to save their family's honor, the high-spirited heroine disguises herself as a man and takes her father's place in the army. Along with her guardian dragon Mushu, her captain, Li Shang, a lucky cricket, Cri-kee, and her companions, Yao, Ling, and Chien-Po, Mulan battles the invading Hun army. With characters voiced by Eddie Murphy, Ming-Na Wen and Harvey Fierstein, and featuring songs by Broadway stars Donny Osmond and Lea Salonga,Mulan is the uplifting tale of the strength and bravery that lies in all of us.

Happy Birthday Claude-Michel Schonberg! Schonberg is best known for his collaborations with the lyricist Alain Boublil. Thier stage musical version of Victor Hugo's Les Miserables, which opened at the Palais de Sports in Paris in 1980, opened to acclaim in London in 1985 and on Broadway in 1987. In 1989, their success continued with the musical Miss Saigon, which starred Lea Salonga and Jonathan Pryce. Schonberg's next project with Boublil was The Pirate Queen, a musical about the 16th century Irish pirate, chieftain and adventuress Grace O'Malley, which opened on Broadway on April 5 2007.

According to an open audition notice posted last Thursday, June 20, on The Stage, Cameron Mackintosh, who recently announced that a new production of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg's legendary musical 'Miss Saigon' is set to open at Prince Edward Theatre in May 2014, is also holding auditions for East and Southeast Asian actors, singers and dancers on Monday, July 1 and Tuesday, July 2.
