A fixture in the Ann Arbor and Southeast Michigan theatre community now for three years, The Penny Seats Theatre Company recently announced the launch of their annual fund raising campaign with a new youtube video directed by Russ Schwartz and written by Schwartz and fellow Penny Seat board member and board secretary Jacqui Robbins.

For over two years now, The Penny Seats, Ann Arbor's new pre-professional repertory theatre company, have been entertaining local audiences under the mantra "making beautiful things from minimal resources." The group has staged three productions to date - "Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet)" and "She Loves Me" at the West Park Band Shell and "What Corbin Knew" at Performance Network - in addition to a number of special performances, including 826 Michigan's annual "Five Bowls of Oatmeal" fundraiser. Next up, the group will partner with the Ann Arbor Senior Center for a cabaret show "From Broadway to the Huron River" as part of the Center's Cultural Arts Series.
VH1 is giving hit scripted drama/comedy series SINGLE LADIES a third season. The series, which has its second season finale on Monday, August 27 at 9PM,* has been averaging 3.2 million total viewers during premieres plus first encores, up 10% from season 1.

With both "God of Carnage" and the upcoming "Dead Man's Shoes" being rehearsed off-site, Performance Network's black box rehearsal hall was wide open for use by a neighboring company, The Penny Seats, and the first show of their second season, Jeffrey Hatcher's "What Corbin Knew." Performances will begin Feb 28 and run through March 14, 2012 at Performance Network.

The film is about Leonard Chess, the legendary founder of the South Side Chicago blues label Chess Records.
