Classical Theatre of Harlem's ROMEO N JULIET Enters Final Week

William Shakespeare's famed star-crossed lovers bare their passion Uptown this summer as The Classical Theatre of Harlem (Ty Jones, producing artistic director; David Roberts, managing director) presents Romeo n Juliet at the Richard Rodgers Amphitheater in Marcus Garvey Park. Justin Emeka, who edited and adapted the tragedy to bring the colorful characters of Harlem to life, returns for the second year in a row as director. Performances, which are free and open to the public, run through this Sunday, July 27.

BWW Flashback: AFTER MIDNIGHT Closes on Broadway Today

Producers Scott Sanders and Wynton Marsalis brought us After Midnight, directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle and featuring the big-band sounds of nine-time Grammy Award-winner Wynton Marsalis' Jazz at Lincoln Center All-Stars. BROWNSVILLE BRED Returns to the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, 7/7-8/25

After more than five years, multiple awards, rave reviews, a sold out Off Broadway run, corporate and college tours, and a book deal with Parachute Publishing, Elaine Del Valle's autobiographical one woman play, BROWNSVILLE BRED, returns to where it all started -- Nuyorican Poets Cafe (236 East 3rd Street, between Avenues B & C, in the East Village). Directed by Pamela Moller Kareman, BROWNSVILLE BRED begins performances on Monday, July 7 at for a limited engagment through Monday, August 25. The performance schedule is Monday at 7:15 PM.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, After Midnight, the seven-time 2014 Tony® Award-nominee, and winner of the Tony® Award for Best Choreography (Warren Carlyle), will play its final performance on Sunday, June 29 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 W 47th Street). At the time of its closing, After Midnight will have run 8 months, with 19 preview performances and 272 regular performances. Lincoln Center Local Live to Bring Family Programs to Brooklyn & Queens

In the hot summer months ahead, cool programming presented by Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and Lincoln Center Education will refresh family audiences in Brooklyn and Queens with Lincoln Center Local Live, a partnership with Queens Library and the Brooklyn Public Library. These one-hour programs will bring free music, dance and theater to select community libraries in July, August and September. Developed from the Lincoln Center's popular Meet the Artist series, Lincoln Center Local programs include question and answer sessions with the performers to engage audiences more fully in the performance experience.

Tony Award-Winning AFTER MIDNIGHT to Play its Final Performance on Sunday, June 29

Producers Scott Sanders and Wynton Marsalis announced today that After Midnight, the seven-time 2014 Tony® Award-nominee, and winner of the Tony® Award for Best Choreography (Warren Carlyle), will play its final performance on Sunday, June 29 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 W 47th Street). At the time of its closing, After Midnight will have run 8 months, with 19 preview performances and 272 regular performances. Conceived by Jack Viertel, and directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, After Midnight began preview performances on Friday, October 18, 2013, and opened to the best reviews of any new musical this season on Sunday, November 3, 2013.

Breaking News: AFTER MIDNIGHT to Close on Broadway in Late June

This just in - as per the NY Times, a spokesman for the Broadway production of AFTER MIDNIGHT has confirmed that the show will close on June 29, 2014, 8 months into the show's run. The show, a $7 million dollar production will close at a loss, at the conclusion of current guest star Patti LaBelle's final performance. The production was hoping to shut down temporarily over the July 4th holiday, before the next star Gladys Knight was due to begin performances, but not all of the unions agreed to the proposal, making it impossible to continue running.
