Live Arts At The Morris Museum Announces Season

Live Arts at the Morris Museum, a bold new performance series, introduces cultural climate change to Morris County's Morris Museum in historic Morristown, New Jersey. Innovative artists from around the world and around the area will dominate the season with world and regional premieres of the most interesting new work being created in music, dance and theater. Live Arts at the Morris Museum is the brainchild of the new Curatorial Director of Live Arts, Brett Wellman Messenger who comes to The Morris Museum by way of The Santa Fe Opera and Peak Performances.

Eugenio Derbez, Ken Jeong and Melissa Joan Hart Join Cast of Nickelodeon's Animated Series THE CASAGRANDES

Eugenio Derbez (Overboard), Ken Jeong (Dr. Ken) and Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina the Teenage Witch) have joined the cast of Nickelodeon's upcoming original animated series The Casagrandes, which tells the story of the Casagrandes, a big, loving and multi-generational family living together in the city. A companion to the Emmy Award-winning, The Loud House, the new 2D-animated series highlights the culture, humor, and love of growing up in a multi-generational Mexican-American family. The series is set to debut October 2019 on Nickelodeon.

52 Emerging NYC Artists Chosen For Inaugural “Open Call”

Alex Poots, Artistic Director and CEO of The Shed, today announced that 52 emerging artists and collectives living or working in New York City have been commissioned to create new work as part of The Shed's inaugural Open Call program. Developed specifically for New York City artists who have not yet had opportunities to create new work with full support from a large cultural institution, Open Call is integral to The Shed's vision: to develop and present the full spectrum of performing arts, visual arts, and pop culture, under one roof, for all audiences. Open Call debuts in The Shed's 2019 season, with works continuing to be presented into 2020.

Your Move: Modern Dance Festival Returns for 9th Year

Art House Productions in partnership with Friends of Loew's  proudly present the 9th annual Your Move: Modern Dance Festival featuring Bessie Jury Award recipient Kyle Marshall at The Landmark Loew's Jersey Theater, 54 Journal Square Plaza, Jersey City, NJ, 07306, adjacent to the Journal Square PATH Station, on Friday November 2 at 7:30 pm and Sunday November 4 at 2:00 pm and 5:00pm. Tickets are $18 in advance ($25 at the door).

Ailey's Choreography Unlocked Festival Fosters Community And Creativity With Panels, Performances, And Workshops

As part of the "Ailey Ascending" 60th Anniversary celebration, the Choreography Unlocked Festival of performance, conversation, and master classes will take place at Ailey's home across two weekends - October 12 - 14 & 26- 28. Building on the success of the New Directions Choreography Lab, created by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Artistic Director Robert Battle in 2011, the festival will elevate The Joan Weill Center for Dance's role in the community as a hub for creating and presenting new work and fostering the next generation of choreographers.  

Center for Performance Research Announces Its 2018 Fall Season

CPR - Center for Performance Research is thrilled to announce its 2018 Fall season. Located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, CPR supports the development of new works in contemporary dance, performance and related forms. Its mission is to promote awareness of and appreciation for contemporary performing arts. Curated programs focus on rehearsal and residency support, generating time and space for research and dialogue, and providing public presentation opportunities. Over the last decade, CPR has supported more than 1700 artists in the development of dance and performance projects, while exposing local audiences to contemporary artistic process through performances and work-in-progress showings, salon style discussions, and symposia.

2018 DANCE NOW Festival Comes to Joe's Pub September 5-8

DANCE NOW is pleased to announce the lineup for the 2018 DANCE NOW Festival. Acclaimed for its adventurous short-takes format, the DANCE NOW Festival presents a diverse array of works by some of today's most exciting dance makers. The 23rd season of this lively fall festival will feature 40 emerging and established choreographers, including DANCE NOW veterans and festival newcomers. The festival emcee is TruDee (aka Deborah Lohse). The 2018 festival will take place Wednesday to Saturday, September 5-8, at 7pm, at Joe's Pub at The Public. A special encore performance will be presented on Thursday, September 27, at 7pm.  

Alvin Ailey Will Honor Founder With 'Ailey Ascending' 60th Anniversary Celebration

When Alvin Ailey and a small group of African-American modern dancers first took the stage in 1958, appearing at New York City's 92nd Street Y, the engagement was for one night only—but it turned out to be the start of a new era in the performing arts. Mr. Ailey became one of the groundbreaking greats in African American history, while the work of his Company grew beyond the limits of the stage to encompass education at all levels, community outreach and cultural diplomacy. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater now embodies six decades of achievement, celebrating the human spirit with performances that unite and inspire all.

Dance On The Lawn, NJ's Premiere Outdoor Dance Festival, Returns To Montclair

Dance on the Lawn, Montclair, NJ's outdoor dance festival, will return to the front lawn of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 73 South Fullerton Avenue, on Saturday, September 8 from 3-5pm. FREE. Celebrating its fifth anniversary year, Dance on the Lawn 2018 will feature performances by more than 13 New York and New Jersey dance companies and schools.

Nominees Announced for 2018 Bessie Awards

Glasses clinked and cheers crowded the air as this year's 43 Bessie nominees were announced and celebrated today, July 11, at a cocktail party/press conference at Gibney 280, along with the winners of 2018 Juried Bessie Award and the 2018 NY Dance and Performance Award for Outstanding "Breakout" Choreographer.  (See attached for list of selected nominees)

Nine Award-Winning NJ Choreographers to be Presented in Two-Day Showcase At SOPAC

Choreographers are a rare breed of innovators. Moving dancers through space with humor, passion, elegance and power is their specialty. Now, the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and South Orange Performing Arts Center proudly present Artists Who Innovate: A Celebration of New Jersey Choreographers, two spectacular evenings of performances from nine New Jersey choreographers on May 4 and 5 at 8 p.m. These award-winning choreographers have recently been granted fellowships by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts for their excellence in choreography. The May 4 performance features the work of Claire Porter, Nancy Turano, Stephanie Nerbak and Kyle Marshall. On May 5 choreographers Hillary-Marie, Loretta DiBianca Fois, Lauren Connolly, Samuel Pott and Keith Thompson will be featured.

Dance on the Lawn Outdoor Dance Festival Calls for Applicants for 2018

In anticipation of the fifth anniversary of Montclair, NJ's Dance on the Lawn outdoor dance festival, a call for applicants has been announced for DOTL '18. The free, outdoor dance festival takes place each year on the second Saturday in September, on the front lawn of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 73 South Fullerton Avenue. The Festival this year is on Saturday, September 8 from 3-5pm.
