The Recording Academy Producers & Engineers Wing will celebrate its sixth annual GRAMMY Week event titled 'An Evening of Jazz' honoring 27-time GRAMMY winner and multi-talented music producer Quincy Jones and 18-time GRAMMY-winning producer/engineer Al Schmitt for their commitment to excellence and ongoing support for the art and craft of recorded music. The event will be held onWednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at The Village Studios in West Los Angeles. GRAMMY Week culminates with the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, airing live on the CBS Television Network, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Grammy Award-winning jazz vocalist, Kurt Elling, brings a bit of New York City to Indy. Featuring music from his recently released recording, Elling highlights songs that came out of New York's Brill Building, famous for its three decades of musical tenants from Jimmy Van Huesen to Paul Simon. The show, which has received high critical acclaim for 'its beautifully crafted, razor-edged mix of bittersweet ballads, reconfigured doo-wop, and upgraded soul," includes such songs as "Come Fly with Me," "You Send Me," "On Broadway," "A House is Not a Home," and more.

On Saturday, Dec. 29th, at the Park West, 322 W. Armitage, Chicago, just days after Frank Zappa's 72nd birthday, the Chicago Jazz Orchestra (CJO) presents an adventurous tribute to this great American musical genius. The show, which begins at 7:30 p.m., will feature the 15-piece CJO along with saxophonist Ernie Watts, who was in Zappa's band for the original recording of The Grand Wazoo. Electric violinist Mark Wood (Trans-Siberian Orchestra) and electric bassist Dave Morgan, who created the arrangements for this show, are also featured. Conducting the performance will be CJO artistic director Jeff Lindberg.

The New York Youth Symphony's Jazz Band Classic concludes its tenth season tonight, May 23, 2009, at 7:30pm with "Sounds From The City," featuring soloist Ann Hampton Callaway at The Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Under the direction of Matt Holman, director, the group will perform songs from New York City with music by Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, and Frank Sinatra, as well as a big band salute to Broadway. The Adjacent Possible by Evan Weiss, commissioned through the New York Youth Symphony's acclaimed First Music program, will receive its world premiere.

The Harris Theater for Music and Dance concludes its 2011-2012 Family Series and celebrates Black History Month with Afro-Beats!, a festive and interactive performance perfect for the whole family onSaturday, February 25, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Join the Fulcrum Point New Music Project, dancer Idy Ciss, saxophonist Jim Gailloreto, Morikeba Kouyate on the kora, and students from the Fulcrum Point Sound Tracks program as they explore the rich rhythms, sounds and images of West Africa in this 75-minute multimedia performance. Children of all ages are invited to participate in drumming circles, traditional African dances, and soulful songs in this spirited performance which features works by Fela Kuti, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Steve Reich, and traditional music from Mandingo and African-American cultures.
