The CSULB Theatre Arts Department has selected and announced the productions for the 2016-2017 season. The season was selected with aims to make an immediate and meaningful connection to contemporary audiences through the work of budding and veteran artists, according to Olivia Sather of the Season Selection Committee. "By including a variety of theatrical productions we allow something for everyone in a community that reaches beyond the students on campus into the culturally diverse city of Long Beach," said Sather. Audiences this season can expect a variety of classic plays, contemporary comedies, and compelling dramas, including two rarely produced musicals and an original movement piece.

For nine consecutive weeks beginning June 26, each writing team will have a weeklong residency in Rhinebeck, New York to write their new musical. Dallas Theater Center announced today complete details for the world-premiere of DEFERRED ACTION. A co-production with Cara Mia Theatre Co. and directed by Cara Mia's Artistic Director David Lozano, DEFERRED ACTION features company members from both DTC and Cara Mia. The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) has announced eleven awards granted from their National Fund for New Musicals, a major funding program to support NAMT member not-for-profit theatres in their collaborations with writers to create, develop and produce new musicals. Now in its eighth year, the Fund will provide grants totaling $43,000 to twelve organizations across the country.
