The Public Theater Hosts Play Festival From MFA Playwriting Program at Brooklyn College

The Department of Theater at Brooklyn College is one of New York City's outstanding institutions in the training of theater artists. With the assistance of a generous grant from the Tow Foundation, the Department of Theater, in conjunction with the MFA Playwriting Program, headed by co-coordinators Mac Wellman and Erin Courtney, will present the annual Weasel Festival, hosted by The Public Theater (August 17-24). This festival of new works, previously produced by the playwrights, will feature performances of full length plays written by Kate Dakota Kremer, Rachel Kauder Nalebuff, Jerry Lieblich, and April Ranger all of whom are recent graduates of the MFA Playwrighting Program at Brooklyn College.

The Brooklyn College Department of Theater will present its inaugural New Works Brooklyn festival today, June 25-29. The series will feature staged readings of one-act plays written by Kia Corthron, Erin Courtney, Jose Rivera, Anne Washburn, and Mac Wellman, all of whom will take part in audience talkbacks during the week. In addition, Rivera will direct his own piece, and Corthron, Courtney, Washburn, and Wellman will take part in a panel discussion on the development of new plays on the closing day of the festival.

Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer-Prize winning Anna Christie, a timeless story of longing and redemption that unfolds on O'Neill's fictional "Simeon Winthrop" coal barge, will perform aboard the century-old Lehigh Valley Barge #79, docked in historic Red Hook along Brooklyn's Hudson River, beginning tonight, September 8, presented by Spleen Theatre. The production is directed by Laura Tesman.
