The Hollywood Foreign Press Association presented $1,249,000 in financial grants to 29 film schools and non-profit organizations at its annual Installation Luncheon honoring the organization's 2009-2010 slate of officers today at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

As part of Boys & Girls Clubs of America's (BGCA) new advocacy campaign - BE GREAT - Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter, actress and Boys & Girls Club alum Ashanti will unveil a new billboard in Times Square on August 11, featuring her childhood picture and an aspirational message - BE AMAZING. Ashanti joins some 25 prominent alumni in the new advocacy campaign to help increase public awareness and understanding about the key issues facing America's youth, and the positive impact of Clubs.

The New York Times is reporting that screen and stage star Kerry Washington will join the Broadway production of RACE, the new play written and directed by David Mamet. Washington will co-star with previously announced James Spader and Richard Thomas in this world premiere production on Broadway.

NiteStar, a New York-based health education and prevention program at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital, is celebrating its 21st birthday with 'Legally NiteStar!' a celebration of 21 years of health education through theater. In addition, NiteStar will launch their new CD which features original music from past performances, including some fresh new tracks never heard before by the public. The celebration will take place Tuesday, June 9, 2009 from 6pm-10pm at Landmark on The Park, 4th Universalist Society, 160 Central Park West at 76th Street.

The Independent Film 2009 Spirit Awards were given out last night Saturday, February 21 in Los Angeles and The Wrestler was a big winner, nabbing Best Film and Best Actor for star Mickey Rourke. Other acting awards went to Melissa Leo for Best Actress for Frozen River, James Franco won best supporting actor for Milk, while Penelope Cruz snagged a best supporting win for Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Woody Allen earned a Best Screenplay award for the film as well.
