Adelphi Orchestra Presents SLAVIC CELEBRATION: YOUNG ARTIST SHOWCASE

Adelphi Orchestra, now in its 63rdseason of Music for All, presents 'Slavic Celebration: Young Artist Showcase' the first of its 2016 concerts dedicated to the orchestra's long standing young artist initiative, Sunday October 23rd at 3PM, River Dell Regional High School. The concert is free and open to the public.

Brian Current Wins Inaugural Azrieli Commissioning Competition

The Azrieli Music Project (AMP) is proud to announce that Brian Current is the winner of the inaugural Azrieli Commissioning Competition, a $50,000 prize for a new work of orchestral Jewish Music of 15 to 25 minutes duration, by a Canadian composer.

KlangVerwaltung Orchestra to Present Mozart's REQUIEM and Bach's MAGNIFICAT 10/25

The KlangVerwaltung Orchestra has been recognized for its superlative technical skill, ability to interact like a chamber music ensemble, vibrant orchestral color, and lively stage presence. Under the direction of conductor Enoch zu Guttenberg, the orchestra has earned rave reviews, both for its live performances and numerous recordings. For its 20th anniversary season tour, the orchestra is joined by the heralded Chorgemeinschaft Neubeuern Chorus for performances in Canada and the USA. On Tuesday, October 25 at 8 p.m., they will perform in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. The other tour dates are: Montreal (Place des Arts, October 21), Toronto (Roy Thomson Hall, October 22), New York (Carnegie Hall, October 24) and completing the tour in Boston (Symphony Hall, October 26).  

Anne Sofie von Otter and Brooklyn Rider Perform New Music on Today in Zankel Hall

The progressive New York City-based string quartet Brooklyn Rider celebrates the release of its new collaborative album with Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter in a concert on Today, October 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall. The album, So Many Things-to be released by Naive Records on September 30-features new works by the quartet's violinist and founding member Colin Jacobsen ("For 60 Cents") and by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw ("Cant voi l'aube"). Both were commissioned by Carnegie Hall for its 125 Commissions Project and will receive their New York premieres at the October 13 concert.

Berkeley Symphony Opens Season With World Premiere Of Paul Dresher, Today

Music Director Joana Carneiro and Berkeley Symphony open their 2016-17 season, their eighth together, on Today, October 13 at 7 pm with the world premiere of a commission by the Orchestra of a new work by Paul Dresher, Crazy Eights & Fractured Symmetries; Stravinsky's Petrushka; and violinist Philippe Quint performing Erich Korngold's Violin Concerto at Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley.

Scott Wheeler Premieres Two Operas, Including Newest NAGA, Today

On the heels of releasing his latest album Portraits & Tributes, award-winning composer/conductor/teacher Scott Wheeler celebrates two new major works to be performed in fall 2016: Naga, his fourth opera, set to a libretto by Cerise Jacobs, premiering September 10-17 in Boston; and Songs To Fill The Void, a three-song cycle set to poetry by Robert Barefield, premiering October 2 in New York City at Weill Recital Hall. In addition, the New Juilliard Ensemble conducted by Joel Sachs will present his chamber symphony City of Shadows on October 1.

THE 39TH FESTIVAL DE LANAUDIÈRE – TIME TO TAKE STOCK! July 9 and August 7

For its 39th season, le Festival de Lanaudiere invited music lovers to discover some of the works that its founder, Father Fernand Lindsay, liked to hear and teach. Between July 9 and August 7, 2016, fourteen concerts were presented at the Amphitheatre Fernand-Lindsay, eight in churches throughout the region, and two at the Musee d'art de Joliette. In addition, there were four cinema evenings and five morning yoga sessions held outdoors. Nearly 53,000 people attended Festival events - a significant increase over the figure for 2015.
