The full cast, creative team and orchestra for the upcoming holiday production of Annie at Skylight Music Theatre was announced today by Skylight Artistic Director Ray Jivoff.
With Lauren Gunderson's Silent Sky, the Next Act Theatre invites us, for a couple of hours, to orient ourselves in a place and time before the 1990 Hubble telescope, before the 1969 moon landing, before the first rocket launch in 1926, and before Edwin Hubble proved the vastness of galaxies far beyond our own in 1923. It's here that we meet mathematician and aspiring astronomer Henrietta Leavitt, played by the always-brilliant Deb Staples.

Misfits: The 2016-2017 theme for Milwaukee Chamber Theatre's season. A little known Tennessee Williams play, A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur provides Williams' misfits, four 'women of a certain age,' a stage for exposing their misfortunes in St. Louis, the 1930's. In a place 'just a street car ride away from a cooling Sunday afternoon picnic' at Lake Creve Coeur, Missouri, the misfits uncover what their lives might be in the future. A stage where their adventures appear courtesy of the up and coming Director Leda Hoffman who transforms Kay Allmand, Kelly Doherty, Molly Rhode and Karen Estrada on a set where 'roses explode like a bombshell of clashing colors' designed by Courtney O'Neill. In fact, the entire production becomes a tour de force for women in the theater, on stage and behind the scenes.
This week, we go around our Broadway World to feature stories in Washington, DC, Rhode Island, Sacramento and more. Under the stars in Peninsula State Park for the 2016 season, Northern Sky Theater (NST) stages their latest World Premiere, Doctor! Doctor! Milwaukee's Matt Zembrowski, who grew up sitting in the state park audiences since he was 12, dreamed of writing a musical for the former American Folklore Theater, now Northern Sky, his entire life and this season fulfills that vision. Books, lyrics and music composed and written by Zembrowski, a considerable artistic feat, recommend the play as 'a prescription for laughter,' which the new musical delivered for opening week audiences. NST's talented acting troupe produce lighthearted laughter for an enthusiastic Door County crowd.
The night before a friend's wedding sets the stage for Theater RED's Milwaukee premiere of Bachelorette at Bay View's Alchemist Theatre. Raw, risque and x-rated, Leslye Headland's script first arrived at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival starring Kirsten Dunst, Lizzie Caplan and Rebel Wilson. Later the director and writer translated this into a stage play, and the playwright followed by producing another movie 'Sleeping With Other People,' supposedly a down and dirtier version of the iconic 'When Harry Met Sally.' While being featured in Rolling Stone, LA Times, and The New Yorker, Headland's play attempts to deal with several mean girls suffering from hangovers and a younger generation's views on a version of the 'Romantic Comedy,' or rom-com.
Milwaukee Chamber Theatre (MCT) announces its 42nd season, exploring the theme of "Misfits." The 2016-2017 Season will feature five exciting productions performed at the Broadway Theatre Center in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward.
Prime bridal season in 2016 begins in April, with the June summer and September fall weddings following afterwards, two of the most popular months to marry, which supports a $72 billion dollar bridal industry. Theatre RED offers an antidote to the sentimentality and excess of festive weddings currently advertised by contemporary bridal culture in their biting, chilling dark comedy coming this March: Bachelorette.
Assembling an amazing array of talent appearing on the Cabot Theatre Stage, the Skylight Music Theatre's My Fair Lady lingers in the audience's mind long after their standing ovations.---just as Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's magnificent musical did when the production first opened on Broadway in 1956. Bloomin' with classic melodies, enduring and memorable, the acclaimed Dorothy Danner directs this brilliant cast with beautiful, fantastical costumes (especially hats) fashioned by Chris March.
What's the difference between a dry rub or a wet barbecue sauce brushed on a rack of ribs? For anyone uninitiated into the competitive world of barbecuing, Northern Sky Theater presents a second world premeire for their 2015 25th anniversary season with this theme tiltled: No Bones About It.
A 25th Anniversary landmark deserves a special celebration. The newly christened Northern Sky Theater with a permanent home in Door County's Peninsula State Park presented the World Premiere of When Butter Churns to Gold to introduce their 2015 summe season.
