New Brunswick's George Street Playhouse celebrates the end of another successful season on Sunday, May 3 with their Annual Gala Benefit, themed 'A Starry Night.' As part of the celebration, the Thomas H. Kean Arts Advocacy Award will be conferred upon Stephen K. Jones, President and Chief Executive Officer of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Robert Wood Johnson Health System by the former Governor himself. The first award was given to Governor Kean in 1990 and thereafter, named in his honor to pay tribute to an individual, corporation or foundation whose dedication to the arts enhances the cultural life of the citizens of New Jersey. In addition, this year the Playhouse established The Arthur Laurents Award for Distinguished Artistic Achievement, to be conferred upon an outstanding individual that reflects Mr. Laurents' high artistic standard. The recipient will be announced at a later date.

In celebration of this season's ON THE TOWN, we've collected 10 of our favorite dance musicals. This unforgettable summer evening will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the creation of The Public's groundbreaking musical, A Chorus Line, and the legendary man behind the music, Marvin Hamlisch, in a one-night-only, star-studded gala to support The Public Theater. Renee Beaumont and Lizanne Rosenstein will serve as Gala Co-Chairs for this memorable evening in Central Park.

Internationally acclaimed actress and singer Joanna Carpenter will be making her New York City solo show debut tonight, March 26, 2014 at Stage72 (formerly The Triad Theatre), 158 W 72nd Street at 9pm.

Born in Berkeley, California in the 1960s, Joshua Redman is the son of legendary saxophonist Dewey Redman and dancer Renee Shedroff. He is one of the most recognizable jazz saxophonists, as famous for his masterful straight-ahead post-bop improvisations as he is for his explorations of groove-based idioms. Redman won the prestigious Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition for saxophone in 1991, and has played alongside of many jazz icons including Jack DeJohnette, Charlie Haden, Joe Lovano, Pat Metheny, and Clark Terry.

Internationally acclaimed actress and singer Joanna Carpenter will be making her New York City solo show debut on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Stage72 (formerly The Triad Theatre), 158 W 72nd Street at 9pm. Featuring an assortment of new songs and timeless Broadway standards, along with fresh interpretations of pop hits, Joanna will be accompanied by musical director Yan Li with very special guests Phoebe Silva and Brian Detlefs. All door proceeds will go to Step Up, a nonprofit membership organization propelling girls from under-resourced communities to fulfill their potential by empowering them to become confident, college-bound, career-focused, and ready to join the next generation of professional women.

On Monday, January 27 (3pm and 7pm), Cherry Lane Theatre will present Love/Kill by Joe Pintauro. The project will be directed by Valentina Fratti and will feature the talents of Angelina Fiordellisi, Mandy Gonzales, Alex Morgan, Dennis Parlato and Peter McRobbie.

Woodie King Jr's New Federal Theatre continues its 44th season with Dr. Du Bois and Miss Ovington starring Kathleen Chalfant and Timothy Simonson. Gabrielle L. Kurlander directs. Performances begin January 16h, with opening night scheduled for January 30th.

Last night, November 14, Second Stage opened its much-anticipated production of Little Miss Sunshine. This new musical comedy is based on the film of the same name by Michael Arndt. It was adapted for the stage by Tony Award-winning team James Lapine, who wrote the book, and William Finn, who wrote the lyrics and music. The 28th Anniversary Jubilee for Career Transitions for Dancers, 'Broadway and Beyond' was held at City Center on Tuesday. With impressive honorees and a star-studded stage show, the event was a resounding success.
