Everything about them was a statement. Their clothes, a rejection of materialism. Their drugs, a quest to get closer to God. Their long hair, a flag of freedom. They were hippies, the social watch dogs of the 1960s, and they played a pivotal role in American pop culture.

Bailwick Chicago & The New Colony Present RISE OF THE NUMBERLESS, Opening 4/24

Bailiwick Chicago and The New Colony have teamed up to present the world premiere of Rise of the Numberless, written by The New Colony's Artistic Director Andrew Hobgood, Patriac Coakley and Evan Linder with original music by Chris Gingrich and Julie B. Nichols and lyrics by Chris Gingrich and Andrew Hobgood, who also serves as the director. The production will run April 6 - May 26, 2012 at Collaboraction Studio 300 in the Flat Iron Arts Building, 1579 N. Milwaukee. Press Opening is Tuesday, April 24 2012 at 7:30 PM.

Team StarKid Announces HOLY MUSICAL B@MAN! for March

Team StarKid has announced its newest Chicago production, HOLY MUSICAL B@MAN!, an original musical comedy parody from the creative team behind A VERY POTTER MUSICAL, which featured music and lyrics by GLEE's Darren Criss, and STARSHIP. Holy Musical B@man! will be presented at the Hoover-Leppen Theatre at Center on Halsted, 3656 North Halsted, Chicago, for four performances only, March 22-25, 2012. A special weekend of preview performances will run March 16-18, 2012. The limited run of live performances will be offered free of charge for all audiences, with a YouTube release slated for April 2012.

The Music Theatre Company will present The 48 Hour Musicals: Bizarre Book Titles, four fifteen-minute musicals written and rehearsed in 48 hours. The musicals are by Will Buck, Matt Boresi, Emma Caywood, Jess Godwin Keith Harrison and Peter Hillard and will be directed by Alan Paul with Music Direction by Kory Danielson and Choreography by Katie Spelman & Zach Zube.

Based on Carlo Collodi's classic tale of a wooden puppet who yearns to be a real boy, this original CST Family commission will turn CST's Courtyard Theater stage into a larger-than-life, European-style marionette theater. Created by multiple Drama Desk Award-nominated team Neil Bartram (music/lyrics) and Brian Hill (book), The Adventures of Pinocchio is directed by Rachel Rockwell, who returns to CST after staging last summer's world premiere CST Family musical The Emperor's New Clothes. CPS and CST Team Up for ROMEO AND JULIET, 10/29-30

In their fifth annual CPS Shakespeare! collaboration, Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) artists and an ensemble of 30 students and teachers from ten Chicago Public Schools (CPS) are breaking down language barriers and promoting critical literacy with an adaptation of William Shakespeare's iconic Romeo and Juliet. CPS Shakespeare! brings together a diverse group of students from CPS high schools across Chicago in a collaborative process that provides training with a team of theater professionals, including text coaches and a fight choreographer. The script, adapted by Director Kirsten Kelly, includes portions of verse in Spanish to represent the diversity of the ensemble and Chicago community. CPS Shakespeare! Romeo and Juliet is performed on the same set designed for CST's current full-length production of Romeo and Juliet in the Courtyard Theater.
