BWW Review: MEN ON BOATS at Unicorn Theatre

Kicking off the Unicorn Theatre's 44th season is 'Men on Boats' by Jaclyn Bauhaus (in cooperation with the UMKC advanced MFA program). 'Men on Boats' is an interesting and mostly accurate exploration of John Wesley Powell's 1869 exploration of the Colorado River north of and into the Grand Canyon.

An actress desperate for relevancy, an actor aching for an Oscar, and a screenwriter who just wants respect are sequestered in a hotel room until they agree on script changes for the film they're making. To complicate things,  the actors have smuggled in huge amounts of booze and coke.

BWW Reviews: ROCK OF AGES the Theme for Musical Monday in Kansas City

Rock of Ages the theme for Musical Monday, presented by Musical Theater Heritage, played on the stage at the Off Center Theatre on April 14. Kristin Hanggi the Tony Award nominated Broadway director is in Kansas City for the production. Hangii came on stage to talk about the songs and the production of the Broadway musical. She holds a Masterclass for Musical Theater Heritage on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Musical Monday, usually a one-night show, runs for a second night on Tuesday April 15.

Kansas City Actors Theatre to Stage Jeffrey Hatcher's THREE VIEWINGS, 10/22-11/10

The Kansas City Actors Theatre moves to Muehlebach Funeral Home for its production of Jeffrey Hatcher's Three Viewings. This dark comedy, set in a mid-western funeral home, explores love and death in a trilogy of touching and interconnected monologues. We meet three memorable characters Emil, a lovelorn funeral director with hidden depths of heart, Mac, a vivacious woman with a covert agenda and Virginia, whose husband's death leaves her with a new 'view' into the love of her life.

Everyday Rapture plays now through June 10th at Kansas City's Unicorn Theatre, starring Katie Gilchrist as Sherie Rene Scott. The show is directed by Jerry Jay Cranford with musical direction by Jeremy Watson and also features Chioma Anyanwu, Christina Burton and Bryan LaFave. She travels from Topeka, Kansas to New York City; with a disturbing detour through YouTube. Filled with familiar tunes, this musical follows Sherie's road to Broadway semi-stardom.'
