David Cromer, original director of this incarnation of Our Town as well as the Chicago one at the Hypocrites Theater, will return to stage manage for a few weeks at the end of the year.

I had the immense pleasure of taking another visit to Grover's Corners, New Hampshire last week, via the fascinating David Cromer production of Thornton Wilder's Our Town that opened in February at the Barrow Street Theatre. Back then I wrote that the director's non-traditional take on the play - which remains completely faithful to the author's text and themes - was one of the most exciting theatre events of the season. On second look, with a mixture of new and old cast member, I'd say it's the best theatre production I know of currently playing in New York.
'Exciting' is not a word normally associated with productions of Thornton Wilder's Our Town. Heartwarming? Sure. Chilling? When its climax is done well, certainly. 'A Moon for the Misbegotten,' written between 1941-1943 was performed for the first time in Columbus, Ohio in 1947. The play premiered on Broadway in 1957 and has been revived four times, winning multiple Tony Awards. The most recent production starring Kevin Spacey and Eve Best in 2007 came to Broadway after its run at the Old Vic Theatre in London.
