The musical, written by Cheri & Bill Steinkellner, opened on Broadway in 2011 and closed after 561 performances. Although the musical does not utilize songs from the film, the musical score is comprised of both fun and heartwarming songs with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater.

Due to extremely high ticket demand, Second Stage Theatre's New York premiere production of Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Tracy Letts' play, MAN FROM NEBRASKA, has announced a two-week extension after opening to extremely positive reviews on February 15th. The production will now play through March 26 at the Tony Kiser Theatre (305 West 43rd Street).
